Help, help, I’m being oppressed!
Certain things could cheer a girl up when she was feeling oppressed by the obscenely vulgar and ignorantly delusional. Things like… ensuring that she and her good friend Darin DeLouise were about to become superheroes in the cause against obscenely vulgar oppression! Glinda P. Dolittle, a girl who needed this brand of cheering up, was working on such a project with such determination that one might worry her face was permanently frozen into a mask of squinty eyes and a pursed-lipped frown.
But it was only deep concentration!
And deep concentration was necessary for an undertaking like… sewing superhero capes!
It must have started with a lofty, playful chat they’d had one day, based on their mutual and perpetual angst at all the injustice in the world, and more specifically, Hogwarts castle. Too many pureblooded creeps trolled about bashing together heads of poor, hapless creatures of less stringent bloodlines, and doling out witless, nasty jibes - against which the hapless sort certainly needed protection!
And who better to protect these persecuted friends than Darin and Glinda - the Habitual Heroes of Hufflepuff House? (Could it be their own makings of Hogwarts’ very first 4H club? Ack. Perhaps Glinda would debate over the name with her fellow superhero.)
At any rate, after her last and decidedly brutal encounter with Colton Vane, she thought it was time to put thoughts to action. Really, it shouldn’t have seemed any more brutal than their other run-ins, this last battle, but she had been uncharacteristically vulnerable with a letter from home in her hand at the time… and perhaps more venomous to him in the end than was normal, as well. She’d tried, and almost been successful, not to let him rile her, but in the end she’d slipped, hadn’t she? Wasn't it her job to rile him?
So now, best to be proactive! SUPERHEROES TO THE RESCUE, WOT WOT!
Glinda was glad she had saved her bolts of fabric and thread spools from the recent family auctions - they came in handy for such occasions. Surprising people with anonymous gifts, hemming trousers on the sly, and of course, fashioning golden capes of a spectacular, beautiful sort. She was fairly certain she’d got a bead on Darin’s measurements, roughly, for now. It was only a cape of course, but she was a perfectionist in the sewing department! They both must look dashing and invincible!
In glittery black, she was just finishing up the last letters on the backs of the capes while sitting tucked on the sofa. “Darin the Daring,” one said, and “Glinda the Gallant,” read the other. The knitted brow broke for a moment as she smiled at them.
Ahem, ahem, ahem. Loooooooovely.
