Instead Momoko just sat on the rooftops staring out across the night towards what lights she could see. Rome? Some fairly large village? Extra moons? Totally huge and bright stars? "Hey," Dinah said, climbing up to the roof. Her eyes were red, but her expression was calm. "How're you doing?"

Momoko smiled; she'd wondered how long until Dinah would find her. She patted the space next to her. "Okay. Better. I went flying for a while. You?"

[blondecanary]

"Enh." Dinah sat on the edge of the roof, and dangled her feet over the edge. "Went for a run around the courses. Then down the street. Then... I think I ended up at the Coliseum." She squinted at the city lights, and a small boat on the distant river. "So, you know. Lost. For a bit."

Lost... In more ways than one. Momoko nodded. "Did it help? The flying calmed me down a bit, but other than that..."

[blondecanary]

"Yeah. It helped." Wearing herself out always did. Although she'd wished for muggers to push in the river, and carjackers to beat up, and burglars to flatten, and none had obliged her. It didn't do anything for the grief. Dinah slung an arm around Momoko and sighed. "I don't want to face tomorrow. There's no getting her back, like we did Raven."

"No, it's forever." Momoko nodded as she leaned into Dinah in return. "I keep forgetting that I can't just go talk to her. It's going to be hard to go back to the dorm... to pass her door."

Dinah nodded, her breath catching a little in her chest. "Yeah," she whispered. No more phone calls. No chance to make it better, or different. "I'm glad she got another chance to come to New Gotham, but... damnit. I thought there'd be more time."

[heromaniac]

"Me too. Seeing her fall in the park... I didn't know it had gotten that bad. I totally should have known, I know. Seen something, noticed." Momoko took a second to calm down again. She'd just have to keep a better eye out for everyone else, since she'd failed as a friend to Triela. "Thank you for telling me. She didn't think it was a big deal, she said."

And didn't that hurt.

Dinah rolled her eyes at the memory of Triela's attitude, then said, "You're welcome. I don't... she didn't look at things the way someone else would." She was quiet. Didn't say, someone normal. What did she know from normal? "I knew it wasn't great, but I thought she was getting better, I thought they were improving things." She sighed raggedly. "Wishful thinking."

"I was wishing it too." Momoko agreed. "But at least she can move now. And at the end it wasn't too bad. I... I wouldn't have wanted that, even if it meant more time with her."

[blondecanary]

"Yeah," Dinah said, voice softer. "Point. She wasn't in pain. And she still knew who we were." She closed her eyes, taking a breath. What a thing to be thankful for. "It just... hurts."

[heromaniac]

She took a moment to respond, but, "I think it's supposed to, you know. And I;m glad of that. If it didn't hurt, I would have to worry." More.

"Yeah," Dinah said. "I'm just-- used to doing something, if something is wrong. Or painful. Or sad. And there's nothing to do. Hard to just... take it."

Momoko nudged Dinah with her shoulder. "We totally should have gotten together earlier today. We could have gone into the city and tried to get robbed."

... She was only half joking.

Dinah gave a sniffly giggle, and said, "See, and if I'd been thinking straight this would've been the best plan ever." She grinned sideways at Momoko, and hugged her. "Being with you guys helps."

"It does." Momoko hugged back. "Because we're family."
