So yesterday was semi uneventful except around 330 I was sitting at Station 1 watching Hills Have Eyes and the pagers go off for a vehicle fire. This was a call just for my station so me, captain Fedorich, driver and probie head to a farm. We went maybe a quarter mile behind the house to find a ride on mower fully involved. We pulled a 200ft 1 3/4 line. I was on nozzle mark backed me up and the probie and drive flanked out the line. We took out the fire in less then 5 minutes. This was my first time on the line for an actual incident. I loved it. The farm had like 30-40 horses and the main house was enormous. I didn't know places like this existed in this area. Anyways this was an interesting call because it was my first. I am happy with it.
We had a few EMS calls one I almost got the opportunity to drive Baldwinsville ambulance lights and sirens to the hospital but I didn't feel 100% comfortable and we had a serious patient on our hands. Instead I got to bag the woman almost the entire way. The other EMS call was a 75 yo male who went unconscious and regained consciousness before our arrival. It was almost 100 degrees in his house so no wonder he was sick. We arrived to see him puking up a storm and from the looks of it was a tad hypertensive. His BP went from 180 systolic to 194 systolic then back to 180. Not to mention the ambulance was 20 minutes away. All in all I got a couple decent calls to practice EMS with.
Grades...well I got them. Disappointed in some areas, thrilled in Others. Heres the rundown:
Internet and Cable: B
Group Discussion: B-
Photography: B
American Politics and Govt:B-
Advanced Radio Production: B-
I was hoping for an A in Photo and Radio and I expected a D+ to a C- in Govt based on my test grades...other then my final the grades for that class were extremely low. My GPA was a 2.8 in the end and I am cool with that.
Life in general is pretty good. I am most likely hired with the American Red Cross to teach CPR/AED/First Aid. 10bucks an hour plus Mileage. I also am pretty sure I am going to be hired with Westchester County for the summer. I was assured that the test is not that bad and I should not have difficulty passing it. I do however plan to study up on my skills before taking the test next week. Interesting enough I do start a week from today. It will be very excited. before I leave however I have some things to look forward to. Hanging out with friends around here for the next few days. We are doing a live burn practice thursday night. That should be a tiring yet extremely fun drill.
This turned into quite a long update...I guess one goal might be to keep updating throughout the summer mainly to keep a record on experiences. We'll see.
