Obligatory Oscar Post.

Yes, that spells OOP.  No, I don't care.
  • Yay, The King's Speech won Best Picture, Director, Actor, and Original Screenplay!  I know people have been bitching about how it's Oscar Bait, but honestly, I have to wonder how many of those people saw the film or at least paid attention during it.  I genuinely loved it, not because it would win tons of awards, but because it was well-done and let me identify with the main character, even though I am not now nor will I ever be in line for any throne.  Also, my sister, JoJo (who has a stutter), says that this will be good for people with stammers/stutters.  So that's awesome.
  • The Fighter won Best Supporting Actor and Actress!  Dude, there was no way they could lose because they were totally scary (in the best way possible).  Also, I loved how Christian Bale plugged Dicky's website and stuff because well, it was so cute!  And Dicky and Micky were so adorable in the audience.  D'aaaww.  Oh, and now both the Joker and Batman have Oscars.  *fangirl dance*
  • Hooray for Toy Story 3!  Sorry, I have to give props to my childhood.
  • "The Triangle of Man Love?"  Tom Hooper, I think you just created a new RPS slash fandom.
  • Robert Downey, Jr./Jude Law OTP.  But we knew that.
  • The ceremony itself was pretty blah.  Anne Hathaway probably could have hosted it alone---I felt like she did more than James Franco.
  • That said, the end featuring the PS 22 Fifth Grade Chorus singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was sincerely touching.  Why?  Because those kids are not classically trained for 10 hours a day, have no stage moms, and don't come from wealthy families.  They are kids ordinary kids from a Long Island public school with sweet voices and an amazingly devoted music teacher who puts their lively performances on YouTube for everyone to see.  Look them up---they sing everything from "Viva La Vida" to "Iron Man" to "Fireflies" to Michael Jackson's greatest hits.  Maybe TWOP or some other recapping site will brush them off as "cheesy" or "saccharine," but those people have no clue what kind of effort educators and parents put into getting kids out there to have that incredible experience.  It's not the Rose Bowl Parade, but it's pretty similar in that regard---getting there is no cake walk, but once you're out there, it's indescribable.  So congratulations, PS 22 Fifth Grade Chorus!

movie awards, excitement, tv, my little sister is awesome, my geek is showing, christian bale, movies
