22 Maps That Show How Americans Speak English Totally Different(ly) from Each Other While we don't speak English in "totally" different ways, these maps are really interesting, I wasn't surprised to see the St. Louis area isolated on a couple of them. We definitely say "soda" instead of "pop", which usually seems like a Northern Midwestern thing (think Chicago and up). The syrup thing surprised me, though---I guess we're more like the East Coast than we thought.
This is way too much fun to look at for an English major like me.
