What happened at work yesterday:
I was supposed to work in the Fudgery, where we sell fudge. Unfortunately, someone called in, so I had to go work the middle cash register in Looney Tunes Mainstreet. I really wanted to box up fudge for people because it's fun and smells good, but the middle till in Mainstreet has a Batcave. I was there for a few hours, and when I came back from my break, I found these foam Batman masks tucked away in a corner in the Batcave, almost completely out of the customers' sight, so I put on one of the masks, a light-up Batman cape, and my best Bale!Batman voice and did my best to entertain the customers for the rest of the night.
TL; DR: I was Batman last night. And I called our Batman statue an impostor and told him to run back to Joel Schumacher.
I got a lot of great reactions from kids and adults---most people said I was Batman. Interestingly, only a couple of women insisted I was Batgirl, despite the voice. I pointed out Batman on a Justice League T-shirt as "this handsome fellow right here", and he said, "Oh, she said handsome because it's Batman, not Batgirl," and his grandmother said, "Yes, she's Batgirl because she can't be Batman." And when I gave one woman directions, she said, "Thank you, Supergirl." Well, she gets points for politeness. These moments were all balanced out by the mother of a three-year-old girl who pointed me out when I said, "I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman!" and said that the little girl likes to do that, too, with a deep voice and everything. I tried to get the little girl to do it, too, but she was too shy. Still, YOU GO, LITTLE GIRL!
But then a giant thunderstorm began around 9:30 p.m., and we close at 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays, so when I was packing up my till, WE LOST POWER, and I had to pack up the rest of my till in the dark, with two lightsabers as my only light source. All of the cashiers ended up camping out in the retail office for an extra 10-15 minutes until we got the all-clear. But all was not clear---the rain was lighter, but the storm was still going. The lightning on the way home was still menacing as all hell, snapping and crackling across the sky. It was beautiful the way a pouncing leopard is beautiful. I was extremely wet and scared when I got home, but I made it!
Now let's see what wackiness Sunday brings!
