Although I can be resolute--adamant, even--about some things, the purchasing of books is not one of them.
Having a gift certificate to Amazon, plus my employee discount, doesn't help, either.
Recently, this is what I've purchased:
Palimpsest, Catherynne Valente (I'm in the midst of reading it; it's florid, baroque, and wonderfully marvelous.)
Dog Days and New Tricks, John Levitt
Spiral Hunt, Margaret Ronald
The Mystery of Grace, Charles de Lint
A Shadow in Summer, A Betrayal in Winter, and An Autumn War, Daniel Abraham
Seven for a Secret, Elizabeth Bear
The Glassmaker's Daughter, V. Briceland
Corambis, Sarah Monette (well, pre-ordered it)
The Left Hand of Darkness, Ursula K. Le Guin (I've read it, of course, I just needed a copy)
Peeps, Scott Westerfeld
The Green Glass Sea and White Sands, Red Menace, Ellen Klages
On the positive side of the ledger, I did take in a whole bunch of books for trade at my local specfic bookstore. Of course, none of that applied to anything above except for one... I am immoderate in my pleasures and choose not to wait for them. (And this means I'll have plenty of credit waiting for me... MORE BOOKS!)
I also pre-ordered Vienna Teng's Inland Territory, which I'm excited about. Oh, and Neko Case's Middle Cyclone. And the first season of Deadwood (it was on sale! plus my discount!).
I've still got my year-end all media round-up post to make. I suppose I should do that before I have to write up my mid-year post. In July. Although, at my current pace, I'll have only a dozen books on it, I've been so swamped and not reading.
Perhaps that's what's up with the purchases? I may not be reading them, but I have them?
Again: I have no discipline when it comes to acquiring stories. I am a magpie, thief of shining stories.
Unfortunately, I am also out of shelf space.
*sigh*
