...It's kinda sad that it takes my sister MAKING AN LJ (and not even FRIENDING me yet wtf) to get me to post. NEVERTHELESS. Postage is now.
Recap on things me: Senior year sucks. Sucks sucks sucks. Pressure, yo. Colleges, and three freaking AP classes (Gov and Lit and Psych), and Health is OMG. Just. Boring and stupid and ARGH. Hate it. Hate the other students (with a few exceptions) in there, do NOT like the teacher, and just. Grrr. Anyway. Gov is taught by a conservative young woman who graduated like, five years ago, from the same high school I'm about to graduate from. Talk about The Hotel California.
Oh! Some good news, though. I'm a Commended Student for the National Merit Scholarship. Basically, I am the lowest rank of the ranked people -- everyone higher-ranked is either a Semifinalist, a Finalist, or a recipient of the NMS. All told, I'm one of 50,000 people who took the PSAT my Junior year and scored really well. Also, got my SAT scores back -- I got 2140 (780 in Critical Reading, 640 in Math, and 720 in Writing) for anyone who wants to know -- and my AP Euro score -- a 4. Also got my STAR scores back, pretty much what I expected except for the part where I got the highest Chem score in the school. I didn't even like that class, and hell if I studied for it. That brought my Chem grade up to an A, so my transcript looks REALLY good.
As a result of the aforementioned SATs and transcript, UC Davis accepted me. I suppose I should preface this with: schools are trying this new thing out where they release grades to the UC system BEFORE students apply, if students have good grades, and then the UCs go "oooh, we want this one and this one and this one!" So, when I say "UC Davis accepted me," what I mean is, "UC Davis sent me a letter saying that I am guaranteed acceptance if I keep my GPA up, complete my A-Gs, and send in my application before Nov. 30."
Yes, you read that right. I was accepted to a UC (a good one, too!) and I haven't even applied yet!
The only thing better would have been getting that letter from UC Berkeley.
Um, let's see... Oh. Senior Project is possibly the stupidest thing since Semester Portfolios/Learning Evaluation Essays. Basically, with the SP, you spend first semester doing a whole bunch of research on a topic, then writing an essay about it. Then, you spend second semester doing a project that is in some way related to the previous topic. My topics? Forms of publishing (research) and writing a novel (project). For long project, students are allowed to start in first semester, provided they're willing to jump through some hoops, so I'm going to be working on that soon...
Oh, and French 3 is kicking my ass. Like, seriously. Still, it's nice to have one moderately difficult class that isn't geared around May. Also, having a third year of Foreign Language will hopefully make me look better to colleges (read: make up for the complete lack of extracurriculars that I have) and also will help me when I take French at the college level. My syntax and speaking French suck, though.
Maybe I should try to find some French LJs and put them on alert. Only problem with that is the offchance that I'll find slang. Oh, and the fact that my French vocabulary is really really small, but. That's what dictionaries are for, non?
Um... Let's see, non-school stuff... Oh! I am the proud owner of Xenosaga Episode 2. Which ROCKS. I mean, the battle system is a little complicated at first, butbutbut. The GRAPHICS and STORYLINE and oh my god the SWIMSUITS and asdfgh. I am totally a Jr. fan, like seriously. Also, I want some nice Albedo/Rubedo fic, or even Albedo/Rubedo/Nigredo fic, but it seems to not exist. I haven't looked into the fandom much, though, so maybe I just missed it. (Also, I think I may have to raid the wiki to find out why the heck Albedo and Nigredo got adult-shaped and Rubedo/Jr. looks like a teenager still. Like. I KNOW there's the whole Jr.-MOMO romance angle, but that still doesn't explain the logistics away.) Speaking of MOMO, I'm a little afeared to go looking up any kind of slash involving Jr., 'cause MOMO will probably be bashed, and I LIKE her. I also like Shion. And chaos. And poor little Albedo, before he got all evil-y. And poor deceased Sakura.
Errrr... Oh! I've actually started TR chapter 11 three times wtf. It's coming along haltingly, but I think I may get it out before Thanksgiving, provided the college application essays don't eat me alive. I know that that's a long way off, but I've got a fair bit on my plate, and I think it's more than I can chew. We'll see. I'm bringing home As, Bs, and at least one C this quarter, which does not bode well. Hopefully I can bring it up.
