Rewatch S1: Ep 05 to 06

Dec 14, 2008 17:59

I've already stumbled upon a mistake in the Supernatural Timeline that I usually use, so I'm quite happy with my decision to keep track of days in the series. It means though that there is TONS of unaccounted for time between episodes, also the weather doesn't make any sense. Basically episodes 3-5 take place between November 14th and February 27th ( Read more... )

Sometimes, a bracelet is just a bracelet. LOL! I don't actually think so though. I just can't see them *buying* jewelry for any reason whatsoever. Money is always tight for them, and things like that are so superfluous that I just don't see how they'd even register on the radar. Unless the bracelets had some personal significance, I just don't see them idly picking up junk jewelry as a fashion statement. I mean, I'm normal and I wouldn't even wear something every day unless it was utilitarian or it had personal significance.

I guess I have a thing for sarcastic sleepy people.Wow, you'd love me then. ~_ ( ... )

lol

I don't know what to think about the bracelets. I don't wear anything either unless it is sentimental or utilitarian. Actually, I always wear a necklace, and I feel naked without one...but I don't see the boys as having that sort of thing going on.

That's why I put haunting in quotations...I don't think she's actually haunting him either. It's more of a psychological thing.

And you are right, Dean's abandonment issues DO go back further than Stanford. I just think that Stanford is what "sealed the deal" so to say.

Ahhh...that makes sense! I like that explanation. The boys use a lot of witchcraft lore when it's for protection, so that fits in well! I've noticed in the first season so far that Dean wears two bracelets, and Sam wears one. Whether or not it's intentional, it fits in well personality wise...since Dean's two bracelets could symbolize both John and Sam, whereas Sam's could just symbolize Dean.

Anyway, something to think about. Thanks for the information!

Sweet thinking on your part, the business about why Dean might wear two bracelets to Sam's one.

Please also note that the bracelets they wear are of the type that have to be tied on by someone else, and aren't roomy enough to slip off. (Dean's beaded one might be on elastic thread, but I'm going to pretend it isn't.) This also speaks in favor of ritual.

The more I think about this, the more I see it. Thanks for the topic!

Thank YOU! I love this angle on the bracelets. Until I'm given anything official, this is now what I will believe! I also really like sweet sentimental things (obviously) so this just makes me giddy.

I loved skin, such a cool episode.

When Rebecca takes them to the crime scene, she is all grossed out by the blood, but Sam and Dean don't even flinch. Dean's pretending to be a cop, so that makes sense...but it's cool how Sam forgets that his friends are supposed to think he is normal. I just think that although Sam has tried very hard over the years to appear normal, he doesn't quite know how to do it, there are still things he doesn't pick up on....like "a bloody murder scene should turn your stomach"...
I wouldn't have noticed this if you hadn't pointed that out. Yeah. Not quite your average guy's behaviour at a crime scene, Sam. But I like how when he's with Dean he completely forgets to pretend to be normal.

The Shapeshifter is horrible, but psychologically ever so interesting, because he seems to voice the kind of things that are hidden away in the people he impersonates, but which they'd never ever actually say.
Though I agree with you that Shapeshifter!Dean gets it a little wrong:
But I think Dean is actually just jealous ( ... )

I agree. I think once Dean gets confirmation that their Dad is okay, then it's really no longer a race to find him - it instead becomes about looking after Sam, spending time with Sam, making Sam laugh, driving around with Sam, hunting monsters with Sam... and "eventually catch up with Dad" becomes kind of a footnote to Dean's mission statement.
