so the i cantori/orchestra "tour" is over...
i put tour in quotes, b/c on friday, i cantori took the "long" trek all the way to the rasmussen's house... i almost jokingly brought my sleeping bag... glad i didn't, b/c i would've gotten so much slack for that... but in all honesty, we were sorta sad that we weren't going anywhere that required us to sleep on gym floors...
had a really awesome online conversation with megan thursday night... we were up until 2:30 in the morning, from 10:30 at night... sadly, it shut down on me accidentally sometime through it, so i couldn't save the entire thing... people that know me know that i am a packrat when it comes to memories... i even type out really awesome text message conversations i have, b/c i can't store them all in my phone... but we discussed several things: our love languages (mine are 'words of affirmation' and 'physical touch,' but ONLY when done sincerely and irregularly), our friendship, our similar complex of trying to figure out our problems ourselves, our jung personality types (i'm an ISFJ), and her triggering off my "snow on snow" moments...
even if i was tired on friday b/c of getting so little sleep, books of moses was still great... the idea of God's face taking on characteristics of how we react to others around us... fell asleep in prophets, observed mr hunt teaching 2-4 music (man, 50 little kids with drums=disaster!), practically acing my music history listening quiz (which i NORMALLY do horribly on... guess i just enjoy haydn, mozart, and beethoven's music), and went to i cantori (where cory, megan, and i busted out in high school musical songs with everyone rolling their eyes at us... pfft, they were jealous! and where mr keller told me to go to band, but i opted against it, b/c i'd rather go to i cantori)... had lunch afterwards, and it turns out that yvonne, andy, amber, and i all plan on coming back to teach at PUC in 20 years... haha!
chatted with megan and jordan... megan and i reaffirmed how she's not the brightest crayon in the box (she's the dull gray crayon, in the corner of the box, while i'm the bright gold crayon that's adored by everyone, haha!) and shared moments where we've lost respect and our social stigma about being first-choir members... jordan and i discussed friendships, jerky guys getting all the girls, and cooking...
rode with darrin and cory to the rasmussen's house... past the street, but still showed up in one piece, haha, even after robert tried to run cory and i over with krissy's car... at the house, broke sad news to cory about the truth about zac efron's singing voice and shared some high school stories... mrs rasmussen made some awesome curry with potatoes and abalone! rasmussen led in worship, asking people to name situations where God had intervened to show positive light... ended up putting me in a reflective, pensive, "crawl into my hole" mood... he also asked us to find four people and give compliments about them, and i hate giving and receiving compliments that are insincere and planned... ended up playing hymns on the piano, and soon enough people gathered around and i took requests... it was fun... ended the night playing some hymns in minor key, then we left... opted not to go to vespers, and chose to stay in my room and relax...
got some good sleep, then woke up early for tour... grabbed robes, got to make little benjamin smile a couple of times, grabbed a bagel and orange juice, and loaded the bus: the "cool bus," might i add, haha... it ended up being a crazy segregation between mostly i cantori people and orchestra... sat next to cory, behind cara, in front of andy and jonny garza, and next to megan and yvonne... mostly slept on the two-hour trip to ukiah, save a few conversations about doug, rocko's modern life, and some cool disney channel shows... also laughing at the trailers in everyone's backyards, and the idea that people built the fences AFTER they parked their cars in their lawns...
sad to say, i don't even know what church we sang/played at, but we arrived... had a stomachache, probably from the orange juice, so i fixed that problem pretty quick (haha, read between the lines), warmed up, and church started... dr davis put me in charge of figuring out where everybody in orchestra would sit... there was much going back and forth from i cantori to orchestra, which was frustrating b/c since i didn't know what songs orchestra were playing inbetween each break, i'd run up there frantically, then find out that i wasn't playing for that set... i thought the concert went okay... apparently, there were parts that the two different choirs were on different keys, but i didn't hear it... maybe it's b/c being around first-choir is all i could hear, huh... i did get really emotional when i thought about the words at the end of "the Lord is the everlasting God" that i started to tear... it was great seeing cara and kara's smiles during the "christians be joyful..." orchestra did really well, too... i love playing schubert's unfinished symphony, even if you get a bloody nose halfway through the piece, and your embouchure gives out at the very end during an exposed wind part...
we had to take a short trip over to the school's gym for potluck... established my hate-love relationship with josh, hoping that he would die, haha... i mean, it's like "salad and dressing," or "fries and ketchup..." found out about yvonne and cory's elementary experiences... turns out yvonne was the darkest one in her entire class, cory was the only white kid among a whole bunch of hispanics, and i was the only asian kid among all white kids, haha... sat at the orchestra/asian table, at the head... jeff and chris' ABC chanting, my backwards alphabet, cory's out-of-place ethnicity and shirt color and ice scavenging, jeff's pie vs my pie, relationship gossip with megan...
back on the bus...
*darrin invaded from korea, which resulted in bomb threats from him against cory and i, and the back of the bus... had a text message battle against him, and cory nuked him with a lime... and darrin's comeback: "well... you guys suck, so there!"
*josh joined us in the back of the bus, crossing the invisible line, that didn't allow "cool people" back there...
*discussion about how awesome orchestra is...
*hearing about cory's instrument history... pretty much knows how to fake all the woodwinds... offered to teach him bassoon...
*texting jordan until i lost service...
*slamming my reclined chair into jonny's forehead...
*me staring down josh after he smacked me, which instilled fear in yvonne, megan, and jonny... when i said i was just kidding, jonny broke out in the most hearty laughter i've ever heard come from him!
*jonny's "UGH" (megan's "snow on snow") and him being an honorary i cantori member...
*andy and his nap, with all the pictures involved...
*debate about mafia handsign vs vibrato...
*cory and his bladder problem (that's what you get for drinking half a pitcher of water!)...
*the lost apple...
*josh and yvonne's narcissism with a random camera...
*jonny reminding cory that an experience he had "long ago" when he was 15, was only a mere 2 years ago...
*getting a gift from jonny, yvonne, and andy (wads of gum wrappers, with its own carrying case)...
*"no singing! TOUR POLICY!"
*discussing our love languages (megan's is physical touch, cory's is quality time)...
*::cricket cricket:: moments from certain bad jokes...
*john: "so, uh... did you read that dr seuss book? that second sentence was pretty deep..."
megan: "but john, i didn't even read it!"
cory: "wait, so was that sentence in the first half of the book, or the second?"
definite fun times... you can make any situation fun... exhausting, but fun... back at the dorm, played a game of stratego against andy, which i swore i would lose... but i didn't, surprisingly... josh and cory joined us afterwards, and we worked our way through a game of kuuduk... went to the caf, yvonne and marla joined us for dinner... josh's brother stopped by, and man you can sense the resemblance! they look nothing alike, but they totally are similar!
didn't wanna watch "casino royale" at drive-in night, so i opted for a quiet night in my room, to journal... instead, cory stopped by and wanted to watch a movie, so we went down to his room and watched paycheck... it's great picking apart at the nonrealistically corny action scenes, and cracking up at moments that aren't supposed to be funny...
*"imagine if we made a movie where they shot at a window, and instead of it shattering, it just had a tiny bullet hole..."
*"or when you try to spin a car, you swerve into a wall or off a bridge instead... oops..."
*"driving a motorcyle through oncoming traffic, and someone changes lanes on you..."
*"split! ... ... ... huh, wha--THUNK!"
good times, haha! chilled in his room, analyzed our friends, stopped by to say hi to the group in the lobby, then continued to install bootleg "the sims 2" on his computer, then stuck around to watch him mess around with it a little... it's a great game; if only i had more time to mess around with it... bosse came into the room later; talked a bit about books...
it's been an awesome couple of days lately... good times; good stuff; good memories...
this quote's been sitting on my desktop for a while now... i think it's a good time to put it here... this one's a gem from grey's anatomy last week:
"Happiness comes in many forms,
in the company of good friends,
in the feeling you get when you make someone else's dream come true,
or in the promise of hope renewed.
It's okay to let yourself be happy
B/c you never know how fleeting that happiness can be.
