No more snow at lake level. The lake is cold! Perhaps just a tad warmer than Lola Montez was last week. A hot day though. One person canceled because of possible thunder showers. We just had some in Reno over the last few minutes. It hasn't cooled things down much.

Hiking at last! But there are problems. The extended winter has left snow in the mountains even now. Not on this hike of course, as it is a lower elevation hike. But Donner Summit still shows snow at street level. I moved three hikes that I would normally do in June to July and I still wonder if the snow will be gone by then. I could call it my commemoration of Woodstock, but I won't. From my perspective today, as I've noted before, following Dave McGowan, Woodstock was one big open air mind control experiment. I finally had to transfer the tomatoes to bigger pots. I scrounged up just enough pots, some big enough to last until planting time, some just a little bit bigger than where I transferred from, but they'll have to do. The mini-greenhouse still works wonders. I think it keeps the humidity up which is definitely good for tomato plants. I have 25 ( Read more... )

Well, I just got through putting together a new toy--a mini-greenhouse. It just barely fits on my back porch, but it's nice and roomy for my seedlings. The seedlings were really getting leggy under the grow light, so it's time to put them outside during daylight. According to news reports flashing on my TV screen as I write it looks like Clinton won the Nevada Democratic party precinct caucuses with about 51 percent to Obama's 45 percent. I don't watch Aliens in America (1 2) much, but I've seen a few episodes and there are some occasionally funny bits. That line's pretty good.

Nothing much new, except for something under the cut regarding my friend Gort.

( Obama in the White House would not represent any fundamental change in the direction of US foreign or domestic policy, but he would, it is believed, put a new face on US imperialism, sorely needed after the debacle of the Bush presidency )

Or, happy or not, it's here! Except for the fireworks waking me up, I didn't do anything. I've never been enthralled by New Year partying. I don't think I've ever done it. It was a little quieter this year. Some of the weirder neighbors aren't here anymore, so only the fireworks downtown make any noise.
