“So do you want cakes?” Massu asked Tegoshi. It’s been a week since they saw each other again, and they were on one of the numerous dates they had during that week. They were eager to see each other again. They missed each other even though they’ve just parted their own ways. It was sweet in a child-like way, but they enjoyed being back to their childishness.

“Not really, I’m not into sweet stuffs,” Tegoshi said as he snuggled closer to his boyfriend, not minding the looks being thrown at them by people. “But I love Massu and he’s so sweet that he gives me cavities,” Tegoshi whispered hotly against Massu’s ears making the other boy blush.

“Let’s just get a coffee then?” Massu suggested while looking at the menu posted at the top of Starbuck’s counter. Tegoshi nodded slightly, “A hot one please.” “Oh, okay, I thought you liked cold coffees,” Massu said as they sat down on a couch somewhere at the corner of the store. “I did, I just like them hot now,” Tegoshi smiled as he grabbed a magazine and started to read while waiting for their coffees.

“So, what happened to you while you were in Osaka?” Massu asked as he drank his cold frappuccino.

“Nothing much, dad was nicer to mom when we got back. I guess he really did miss mom and decided to change his ways. He became a better husband and a father to me,” Tegoshi said as he sipped his coffee as well. “I met Ryo and Shige at school. Shige was in the same class as me and Ryo was like his older brother, they’ve known each other since they were kids and he was just a year ahead of us,” he continued with Massu listening intently, wanting to know what happened to Tegoshi while they weren’t together. “It wasn’t so hard to fit in anymore since I met you, I think I became more sociable that’s why Shige and I became friends almost instantly.”

Massu smiled when he heard that. He was glad he was able to change Tegoshi’s life. Tegoshi looked up and saw Massu smiling at him and he smiled back too. He guesses it was a reflex because you really can’t help but smile when you see Massu smile like that in front of you.

“You need to go home,” Massu said as he stood up from his chair and reached out a hand for Tegoshi. Tegoshi happily accepted and stood up too and placed a swift kiss on Massu’s cheeks. “I’ll walk you to the bus stop ne?” Massu says while grinning. Tegoshi just nodded and held on to his boyfriend.

“So I guess it’s goodbye for now?” Tegoshi says while holding both of Massu’s hands. Masuda nods and kisses Tegoshi’s temples, lips warm against his cool temples. “I’ll see you tomorrow?” he asked, eyes closed, his warm breath tickling Tegoshi’s ears. “Uhn,” Tegoshi replied as he pulled back and started to walk towards the bus he was going to take.

Massu watches him walk away and the sight always left him feeling empty. It was like letting go of something really vital to your whole being. And then, before he knew it, he was running after the bus that Tegoshi was on. He was shouting like crazy to make it stop, but he kept on running after it anyway.

Tegoshi sighed as he settled on his seat, missing Massu already as he looked out the window. And that’s when he saw it, Massu running after the running bus, trying to make it stop. He opened his window and he heard him call out his name. “Stop!!!” Tegoshi suddenly shouted and the driver hit the brakes, passengers almost falling off their seats at the sudden halt.

Tegoshi ran out of the bus, the conductor opening the doors for him. He saw him stop running, panting hard and start to grin like crazy again. He smiled at his idiocy and started to run towards him.

“You’re an idiot you know,” he whispered as he was locked in a tight embrace, Massu’s steel arms almost crushing him to death but wanting nothing more than to be trapped in those arms forever.

“I’m an idiot who’s crazy in love with you,” Massu whispered back. “Stay with me, live with me Tegoshi, don’t ever leave my side again,” he crooned against Tegoshi’s neck. Tegoshi nodded, stroked Masuda’s hair and thinks that this might as well be forever.

The first night he spent in Masuda’s place was spent on sex. All the bottled up emotions they’ve felt over the years were unleashed. Lust and hunger for more left them panting and moaning on the bed. Bedsprings creaking underneath them, headboard hitting the wall more than a few times. Groans of ecstasy coming deep from their throats. Sweaty bangs hiding their lustful gazes made for each other. Kiss marks and angry red lines adorning their overheated and sweaty bodies.  The light coming from the street post illuminated the room and gave it a more erotic tone. The thrusts were getting deeper and deeper, more forceful than the last leaving them begging for more, wanting to be fucked until they couldn’t walk anymore.

“I love you Massu…” Tegoshi breathed out as the last of his energy was spent on his final orgasm that night. Massu slumps on top of him, jerking himself off until he comes for the nth time that night. Tegoshi reaches for his hands and slides his fingers still dripping with cum one at time in his mouth. The sight left Massu hard for him again but he knew that their bodies have reached its limits already so he settles on kissing Tegoshi instead, tongue coming in his mouth, tasting his own cum, and moans as Tegoshi starts to draw circles at his back.

“I love you too Tesshi…” he says and lies next to his lover. His arms pulling him closer protectively, ankles crossed daintily, Tegoshi’s back against his broad chest. And the sound of Tegoshi’s soft breathing lulls Masuda to sleep.

“Why haven’t you cleaned this place up yet?” Masuda asked quite annoyed that he arrived home to find his apartment still full of clutters and unclean. It gives him a serious headache to see his place thrashed like this.

“I said I’m sorry!!! I went out with Shige today and just came back too okay?!” Tegoshi replied, frustrated that Massu was making such a huge deal out of this. “You also said that yesterday and I ended up cleaning instead! You know how I hate to see things so disorganized!” Massu almost shouted out.

“Fine! I’m going to clean it up!!! You happy now?!” Tegoshi screamed.

Massu sighed. They’ve been fighting like this for a while now. He really doesn’t know what’s wrong and what to fix in this relationship. “I’m sorry Tesshi,” he whispered as he hugged him from behind. The smaller man relaxed against him, the anger he felt starting to ebb away. “It’s okay Massu… I’m sorry too, I know how you like things to be clean and I forgot about that. I’m sorry ne?” he said and Masuda just nodded and promises to cook them dinner while Tegoshi cleans up the house.

Another fight happened again when Masuda saw Tegoshi on the phone in the middle of the night. He asks him who it was and Tegoshi just shrugs it off, telling him it was just a friend from Osaka. Masuda didn’t believe him and gripped Tegoshi’s wrists hard.

“You’re hurting me Massu…” Tegoshi whined.

“Who was that?” Masuda repeated the question again.

“It was just a friend! Stop it Massu!!! You’re hurting me!!! You’re being too possessive!!!” Tegoshi said as he tried to yank away his wrists from Masuda’s death grip.

“I’m not possessive, I’m protective. I don’t want another person to take you away from me,” Masuda answers, his gaze as hard as steel.

“Fine, okay? Just let me go… please Massu… it hurts…” Tegoshi says, eyes pleading for him to be set free because he couldn’t feel his right hand anymore. Masuda lets him go and his eyes started to soften as he saw red marks on Tegoshi’s skin. “I’m sorry,” he said as he lifted the wrist and kissed it gently. “It’s okay,” Tegoshi answers but wonders if things were really okay.

The next few weeks didn’t change much. Tegoshi and Massu’s fights became even more often, sometimes more violent with Massu throwing his stuffs around the apartment. The differences in opinions didn’t help either. Most of the time, Tegoshi finds himself locked up in the bathroom, crying his heart out. When he goes out of the bathroom, eyes dry with no more tears to cry, he desperately tries to believe that everything will be okay again. But Masuda disappoints him most of the time by starting a new fight again.

Tegoshi desperately tries to make things work. Massu was still Massu. The same Massu he loved 10 years ago. He grew up without him by his side but now that he was there, he didn’t want to let him go. Even if things weren’t all that fine between them.

“Massu… here’s your coffee,” Tegoshi says as he hands over a cup of coffee to Masuda one morning. “Thanks,” he says and continues to read the morning newspapers.

Tegoshi then hugs him from behind. It’s been so long since he did this and the scent of Masuda fills his nose. He wanted so much to cry at the moment of peace he felt when he hugged him. He wished things could be like this forever. “I love you Massu…” he whispers softly, gently, as if afraid that his voice might break the peace he felt. And Masuda breaks his heart that morning when he didn’t say anything and stands up to leave.

The final straw fell when Tegoshi arrives home late, travelling from Osaka and back at the same day to visit his parents. He finds Massu naked on the bed, arms draped over a girl and the sight left Tegoshi speechless and with a heart broken to the tiniest of pieces.

He left that night with his feet taking him to places he didn’t really knew. The cold wind was harsh against his face and the tears that started to fall stings his eyes until he couldn’t really see anymore and stumbles on the ground. Heart-wrenching sobs were heard from him, body convulsing from the crying. His shout of despair heard throughout the cold winter night’s air.

He read it somewhere. A quote about a boy promising a girl to wait for her whatever it takes and he laughs bitterly about it. He wished he read it sooner. Read it 10 years ago. Before he even met and fell in love with him. Before he left him. Before he broke his heart when they crossed paths again.

He was now alone again, walking in these cold streets, the lamp post lights flickering on and off. He wondered why he got to this situation in the first place. Was it his entire fault for making Massu wait for him? Did he really change so much in the span of ten years?

He finds himself standing in front of his apartment again, hidden by the shadows, he saw him walk out of the building. Cheeks flushed from the cold, hands shoved deep inside his coat’s pockets, a gorgeous looking girl at his side. He felt himself break apart again. Felt his heart shatter. Felt his soul become empty again. But he can’t help it. Can’t help but watch him from afar. He still loves him. Still wants him but can’t have him. The tears starts to blind him again as he starts to walk up to Massu’s apartment floor.

He finds his copy of the keys and enters the room. It was still clean. Nostalgia filling him in. He touches the tops of the couches as he walks to the bedroom. It smelled of sex and he misses it. He misses Massu’s lips on his own, making him moan and come with just a touch.

He opens the drawers and finds what he was looking for and seats on the white bed. It was their picture 10 years ago, framed in a simple black wood. The innocence was still twinkling in their youthful eyes. They were grinning widely, arms on each other’s shoulders, Massu flashing a peace sign at the camera. A tear drops on Massu’s happy face and Tegoshi wipes it off with his thumb but another tear falls and wets the glass.

He looks around the room, the picture held tightly in his hands, clutched in front of his chest. He lies on the bed, head resting on the pillows, his short brown hair splayed on top. He sighs as he felt that now, he was truly back to where he belongs. On this bed. In this house.

He breathes in deeply and he could smell the faint trace of Massu’s shampoo on the pillows. He smiled as an image of a smiling Massu appears on his mind. He will always miss that smile he thought as he pulls out a small revolver from his pocket.

He felt the cold tip of the gun against his temples and he smiles. Closes his eyes and felt the final tears drop as he thought of his Massu. And then, he felt extreme peace and happiness wash over him.

Massu arrives home late. He managed to shrug off the girl he picked up. The alcohol was getting to him and was surprised to find his apartment door open. Suddenly, he felt alert and cautious. He peeked inside and flicked the lights on. Everything seems to be in place. And nothing seems to be missing.

Massu sighed in relief, glad that he wasn’t robbed and assumed that he just left his apartment door unlocked. He made a mental note not to let it happen again. He dragged his tired body to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of cold water. Feeling refreshed, he walked to his bedroom to sleep.

Crash.

Masuda felt the glass he was holding slip from his grasp as he saw Tegoshi’s body lifeless on his bed. He walked cautiously towards the bed and saw blood splattered all over his white pillows. He saw the gun next to his body and Tegoshi smiling like he was in peace, a picture frame held in his hands. He knew that picture. He would recognize it anywhere.

Masuda felt tears flowing from his eyes and gently moves the hair away from Tegoshi’s small face. He shakily grabs Tegoshi’s hands and gasps at how cold it was. He cries as he thumbs Tegoshi’s soft cheeks, cold and pale. He leans forward and places a soft kiss on his forehead, tears falling on Tegoshi’s nose and cheeks, staining his beautiful face.

Masuda sees a note and unfolds it.

Massu…

I never should’ve made you wait… because nobody waits forever…

Your Tesshi…

And Masuda cries that night, holding on to Tegoshi’s lifeless body. Thinking that maybe he should’ve died on that night too.
