I've spent most of this week taking care not to hurt my ankle again, and it's finally starting to hurt less. It's about time, too, because on Saturday my friend and her family are moving house, and we (my cousin, and another friend) promised to mind the kids during the move. They are three and two years old, and then there's my cousin's baby, who's not yet one year old, so that's going to be an interesting experience all round:).
Because I've been forced to keep my leg up and to not stir very much, I'm getting a lot of reading done. I'm finally getting into The Other Boleyn Girl, which I suspect most people who are into the Tudor period have read long ago, since it came out in 2007. I'm liking it in a way, because it's written in a very readable language, and the pacing is good, too. What I don't like is the amount of really nasty intrigue going on, Of course I knew to expect some sort of intrigue, since life at court is apt to be like that, and was probably even more so back in those days, What I didn't expect, I think, was that I'd get so invested in the characters, especially Mary herself. I actually feel bad on her behalf, longing as she does to get away from the court, back to her home at Hever castle, in the country, and spending time with her baby. I'm trying to summon up some sympathy for Anne Boleyn. too, but the fact is I never really liked her, even reading history books and watching documentaried, however sympathetically they tried to portray her. It's the same with historical and fictional characters as with real ones, I guess: some you like, and can't help it, and others you don't, and you can't help that, either.
I've been knitting, too: another pullover is half-way finished. just another sleeve and a turtleneck collar left. This was an interesting project, because I didn't have my go-to pattern to knit from, so I knit the body of the pullover out of my head, and then found another pattern to get the right proportions for the sleeves. It's a grey yarn and there are blue stripes over the body. I think I'm going to like it, and what's more, I may start on another one soon. Of course there's some Christmas knitting to do, as well, but then I also have lots of time on my hands...
I hope you're all having a great week. I'll try to get some commenting done soon. Be assured that I do read all your entries, and that I'm not abandoning this blog, even though I'm blogging irregularly. See you!
