I'm so glad that Tara shined in this episode. I LOVED HER! She pretty much saved Sookie, even though they saved each other. Kudos to Tara though for playing Franklin and then bashing his head in. I really REALLY wanted her to stake him, but I suppose the writers want to torture her more later. D:
You're not the only one that saw some Alcide/Tara sparks. And I love Sam, but yeah, his story is really boring me too. Wah.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes Lorena. I think the actress is fantastic too. And I'm really liking how Ball is writing Bill.
Sam's story seems so insular from everyone else's; I like when the characters are a little more connected than they are now.
Haha, I can't remember Hadley/what he looks like! And as long as Sophie's around in more episodes I'll deal with my irritation that Eric's suddenly more powerful than she is for no good reason.
So much word about Tara! I couldn't help enjoying Franklin a bit in the moments when he was being quirky and weird rather than creepy, but there was so much creepy that was so not ok, and yeah, squicked the fuck out of me. Woman being terrorized and helpless like that is one of my biggest squicks ever.
I wanted to cheer when it become clear that she had a plan, I'm so glad she (and Sookie) get to save themselves instead of having to wait around for rescue from (supernatural) men.
I have never liked Eric, so while Bill annoys me occasionally, I'm quite happy for Sookie/Bill to continue.

Jesus and Lafayette were ridiculously adorable but man, I was so tense through all those scenes because I was terrified he was going to turn out to be someone terrible and break Lafayette's heart. :(
Seconding the WTFery on Sophie Ann, I love her and really hope she gets some of her own back next week.
NGL, I laughed when he was typing "mothafucka" on the phone really fast and showing off. But all in all he's pretty much better off dead.
Oh good, most of fandom seems to be into Sookie/Eric and while I admit I won't care too much if it happens because I'm not that invested in Sookie's love life, Sookie/Bill makes a little more sense to me right now.
I was feeling just like Lafayette towards Jesus - he seemed to good to be true and I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. But they seem so totally lovely, and I hope they can work it out. So many queer relationships on TV end up in heartbreak so it'd be nice for that to, you know, not happen this time.
I think the fandom's love for Sookie/Eric is one of the reasons I'm really not in fandom for this show; I haven't read the books but as it's been presented on the show so far, the pairing seriously squicks me, so even if Sookie/Bill doesn't last I will be rooting for Sookie/Alcide or Sookie/random guest character or Sookie/her hand over Sookie/Eric.
That's such a perfect way of putting it. In some ways it almost reminded me of some Arthur/Merlin modern AUs I've read - not in a bad way, and not because they're the same characters at all, but just in terms of one guy being definitely interested but extremely wary while the other one's bringing the charm, which made it all feel a bit surreal. And I think it says something that Merlin fanfic is my go-to comparison here, because when it comes to actual TV, you so rarely see this much attention paid to the beginning of a relationship between two people who are not straight and are comfortable with that going in. You'll occasionally see a character going through the process of realizing

ITA with all of your thoughts on True Blood...except Bill/Sookie. Perhaps it's just because I dislike Bill so much or maybe I'm still biased because of the novels but he's the last person I want her with. That said, the show hasn't completely sold me on Eric/Sookie or Alcide/Sookie yet either. In fact, the only person I could actually be happy seeing Sookie with at this point is Sam and we all know how unlikely that is:)
And ngl, I cheered when Tara attacked Franklin, then immediately cringed because I just know he isn't gone for good. She should've hacked his head off with one of those swords :)
Also...no Pam for two weeks in a row makes me very :(
I haven't read the novels! But to be honest Sookie's love life is not something I'm super-interested in, so if Eric/Sookie does happen, whatever. I enjoy naked ASkars. I only say I'm on team Bill right now because he really does seem to be who she wants for now. That could totally change tho.
Pam had better be back next week, I'm getting worried!
I liked Franklin (as comedy, and 'cause James Frain is awesome) and I still cheered on Tara 'cause she was AMAZING this week. I felt her response had been so OOC that it was fantastic to see her be so kick ass.
I have to say I don't know why you expect a main PoC from Mad Men. It has a very narrow brief that I don't think in any way incorporates all that was going on in the 60s, and in that brief PoC's didn't really exist except as help or in the form of the civil rights movement. I mean it barely touches on the rise of rock n' roll, drugs, changing aesthetics, the draft, it mentions Korea but doesn't really talk about it, again it mentions the civil rights movement, JFK, communism, but none of that is anyway central to the story other than promoting themes. I actually think that is what differentiates Mad Men from so many modern interpretations of the 60's is that it is about the old guard just going on living rather than the rebellions that were rife through out the decade.
*shrug* I just think a show that does so well with gender issues of the decade is weirdly avoidant of race issues of the decade, apart from these nobly suffering walk-on characters. It doesn't need to be ABOUT people of color for them to be present in a way that provides some small context for their experiences and point of view - sort of like other characters from marginalized groups, like Sal and Rachel Menken, had. They're a good example that Weiner does know how to provide context for things the main characters don't care about, even with its narrow scope. If it were a dealbreaker I'd stop watching. It's just an observation I have.
