[Forward dated to January 2] A Wedding - Finally (Gathering Style)
Buffy hadn't dragged her feet getting married to Riley out of cold feet or any doubts about her feelings for him. The long engagement had more to do with waiting for the Powers That Be to drop that final shoe bringing in Sam to the village just as they were married. However, that hadn't happened, and she hadn't wanted Riley to be taken from her screwing up (in her mind) her only shot at family and a normal life. Faith had it with Dean and damn if she wasn't going to have it with Riley. And she did love him, bonus for that.
With that in mind, they wanted to start the new year off right. The Christmas date got pushed back to the New Years which in turn got pushed back when the village did the wacky. There was no way Buffy was going to have a wedding during a village weird. She was dressed in a white dress and didn't care about how cliche or not it was. She'd literally dreamed of having a day like this and Heaven help anyone that screwed it up. Which of course meant something would likely happen but Buffy was determined to keep her head in the sand about that.
The reception was being held in the hotel ballroom, mostly to avoid any lingering village weird just in case there were tendrils. If anyone asked, Buffy would say that she'd planned it this way all along knowing that it could snow at the drop of a hat and she didn't want to inconvenience anyone. That was her story and she was sticking to it.
The room was decorated in a Winter theme with heart doily lights and there might have been some ice skates hanging on the wall with evergreen arrangements in them as a nod to the bride's love of ice skating.
