Easter Dinner (Gathering style - tag Winchesters, Harvelles, and Singer)

Apr 24, 2011 13:07

Mary had spent much of Saturday prepping and baking food for Sunday and was up early today to get the rest of the food and decorations ready for dinner. It was Easter and traditionally they had a family dinner that was delicious, yes, but proper size for the three and a half mouths to feed. However, this Easter, Mary cooked like she was feeding an ( Read more... )

Dean couldn't remember the last time that they'd celebrated Easter. Probably when Sam was a really small kid and he'd stolen candy from a convenience store and laid next to his bed in some crappy motel. He knew that he hadn't been religious or believing in anything since his mom died so it was a bit surreal to be 'celebrating' Easter with everyone.

Not that Dean would ever pass up time to spend with his parents. He just hoped he wouldn't have to play referee between Sam and their dad. Dean knocked on the door and tugged at the collar of his button down shirt. It was his only concession to dressing up and there was no tie. He really hated ties.

Sam was feeling a bit self conscious as well as he stood behind Dean, waiting for one of his parents to answer. He didn't want to fiht with his Dad, especially not today, but an arguement always seemed to happen when they were around each other. Plus he still felt like he was walking on egg shells since there was so much he didn't want his mother, or his Dad, to know about him.

Running a hand through his hair, he sighed as he glanced at Dean. He had dressed up with a nice shirt and a pair of slacks but he wasn't wearing a tie either.

The only person who was was Bobby. He was lucky he had found one of his old suits in his closet, even if he had decided against the suit jacket. His favored baseball cap was gone too, so his hair was slicked back from his face which only added to his feeling a bit uncomfortable.

So he distracted himself by reaching to swat Dean lightly upside the back of his head. "Stop fidgeting." That earned a chuckle from Sam.

Mary hadn't been expecting her boys to dress up, per say. She decided quite quickly after meeting them that she wouldn't put unnecessary pressure on any of them. But when Mary opened the door and saw her sons smartly dressed, she couldn't help but smile fondly in greeting.

"You two look very handsome." Her smile widened and then her attention was drawn to Bobby. She greeted him with the same kind smile as she had with the boys. "You must be Mister Singer?"

She stepped back into the room to let the trio enter.

Dean smirked over his shoulder at Bobby and the 'Mr. Singer' comment but he was careful enough not to let his mom or dad see it.

He winked at his mother, as he stepped inside. "It's the good genes that make us look good."

OTA, (tag Ellen, if they came?) mother_hunter April 25 2011, 18:05:40 UTC
After the dinner, which she hoped was a success considering no one had complained much about the food, Mary found herself in the kitchen with a dish towel over her shoulder and a pile of plates to clean up. She wasn't planning on doing it all, certainly, but there were too many to just let them sit on the counter so she decided to do the plates and some cups, at least. That way if anyone wanted more dessert or a drink there would be something to put those things in or on.

She hummed softly to herself. It was strange to have grown boys, but in the end, it was nice to have her family together as they were tonight.

Ramona was having a little trouble just sitting still, and ended up wandering into the kitchen, feeling a bit unsure of herself in this particular situation. "Um..." She cleared her throat a little. "Can I help?"

Mary didn't really care that Ramona's hair wasn't any of the standard shades and, in truth, Sam had told her already that Ramona was very colourful, so Mary had been somewhat prepared. Not that it mattered since Mary liked the girl.

She greeted Ramona with a smile and nodded. "Sure. Want to wash or dry?"

Ramona's only other experience with meeting a guy's parents had been the Jewish boy she'd gone to a 6th grade dance with. Since Ramona was Catholic, that hadn't gone over all that well with his mom. Thankfully she highly doubted Mary start muttering in Yiddish or anything.

"I can dry," she offered--since Mary had already started washing.

Easter Baskets mother_hunter April 25 2011, 18:14:15 UTC
The baskets were in Easter colouring - one blue and one green and both in pastel. In each basket was the following: a large, hollow chocolate bunny with candy for the eyes, a few purple and yellow Peeps, two packages of mini eggs, pastel coloured jelly beans, a couple of Cadbury creme eggs, some red licorice, and an assorted amount of small chocolate eggs wrapped in various colourful foil. All the items were nicely placed amongst blue and green plastic grass.

(ooc: You can use this as a reaction post or have the boys talk about them, if you want, but mostly I just wanted to give you guys an idea of what was in the baskets ^__^ )

Ramona had considered (really, really considered) just ignoring the holiday altogether, but since she'd been invited, and this was her boyfriend's family, in a place that contained a scant couple hundred people if that making total avoidance of all awkward encounters with said family members kind of impossible, so ignoring the invitation just seemed really rude.

So yeah, she was nervous. Not that it really showed, Ramona was nothing if not good at playing detached when necessary. Since no one had mentioned a dress code, she hadn't really dressed up, though it might seem otherwise--skirts were kind of normal everyday wear for her. But there wasn't much she could do about the pink hair (well, she could, she just wasn't going to).

She'd at least brought flowers, which she cradled carefully as she knocked on the door. That had to count for something.

John was the one to answer the door, a little more dressed up than usual in dark jeans and a crisp, dark blue dress shirt. He wasn't sure just who to expect tonight...after all, it was a family event but he was pretty sure there'd be a couple of guests. He'd heard murmurings about Sam and a girl...

...then he saw the hair as he opened the door.

"Hi." he managed with a pleasant smile, though his eyes lingered just above Ramona's gaze for a moment before they met hers more amicably. "Welcome...c'mon in. Here, lemme get those for ya...that's real sweet, thank you."

While a part of her wanted to snark It's hair dye, dude, not a symptom of rabies, Ramona managed a slight half-smile over momentarily gritted teeth.

"You must be Sam's dad," she replied, carefully balancing the vase in her hands to let him take it from her. The resemblance was definitely there, anyway.

"John Winchester." he confirmed, setting the vase on a nearby table so he could shake her hand warmly. So this was the girl with Sam...she was unexpected, to be sure, but he'd seen stranger characters on the road. He was over the hair quickly enough, but still found himself staring now and again simply because of the shade of it.

"C'mon in, have a seat." he offered, extending a hand to gesture to the nearest available chair. "Can I get you anything to drink?"
