Easter Dinner (Gathering style - tag Winchesters, Harvelles, and Singer)

Mary had spent much of Saturday prepping and baking food for Sunday and was up early today to get the rest of the food and decorations ready for dinner. It was Easter and traditionally they had a family dinner that was delicious, yes, but proper size for the three and a half mouths to feed. However, this Easter, Mary cooked like she was feeding an ( Read more... )

Ramona had considered (really, really considered) just ignoring the holiday altogether, but since she'd been invited, and this was her boyfriend's family, in a place that contained a scant couple hundred people if that making total avoidance of all awkward encounters with said family members kind of impossible, so ignoring the invitation just seemed really rude.

So yeah, she was nervous. Not that it really showed, Ramona was nothing if not good at playing detached when necessary. Since no one had mentioned a dress code, she hadn't really dressed up, though it might seem otherwise--skirts were kind of normal everyday wear for her. But there wasn't much she could do about the pink hair (well, she could, she just wasn't going to).

She'd at least brought flowers, which she cradled carefully as she knocked on the door. That had to count for something.

John was the one to answer the door, a little more dressed up than usual in dark jeans and a crisp, dark blue dress shirt. He wasn't sure just who to expect tonight...after all, it was a family event but he was pretty sure there'd be a couple of guests. He'd heard murmurings about Sam and a girl...

...then he saw the hair as he opened the door.

"Hi." he managed with a pleasant smile, though his eyes lingered just above Ramona's gaze for a moment before they met hers more amicably. "Welcome...c'mon in. Here, lemme get those for ya...that's real sweet, thank you."

While a part of her wanted to snark It's hair dye, dude, not a symptom of rabies, Ramona managed a slight half-smile over momentarily gritted teeth.

"You must be Sam's dad," she replied, carefully balancing the vase in her hands to let him take it from her. The resemblance was definitely there, anyway.

"John Winchester." he confirmed, setting the vase on a nearby table so he could shake her hand warmly. So this was the girl with Sam...she was unexpected, to be sure, but he'd seen stranger characters on the road. He was over the hair quickly enough, but still found himself staring now and again simply because of the shade of it.

"C'mon in, have a seat." he offered, extending a hand to gesture to the nearest available chair. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

Thank God it wasn't blue at the moment. "I'm Ramona." She wasn't sure if Sam had mentioned her name or not.

She shook his hand, resisted the urge to tuck her hair back behind her ears, and sat down in the offered chair. "Um...I'm okay, thanks."
