Virus Free and Skeletons in his Closet- OTA

Kerai was gone. Cas hadn't been so sure before, but now her name was wiped from the hotel registry books and her contact information from the messenger. He knew that there had been so much more she could have taught him, and that during their short time together here in the village she had become much more than just a friend of his- she was family. She and Chuck both were.

Being an angel, he should know how to deal with loss such as this. He was very old and he'd seen a lot, but he'd still only just recently become this close with humans... and even more recently understood what it felt like to have true human emotions himself.

It wasn't all that warm, but he had the windows wide open at The Ribbon that morning. He had cleaned the place out better than ever after the Croatoan Virus had gotten inside, spread and infested even the safe haven he'd tried to create.

It hadn't lasted very long. As soon as he'd gotten the chance, for the good of the village, he had overcome his fear and dug around in some sorry NPC infected person to check them out. He could never have attempted such a thing if he hadn't talked about it all with Kerai over and over again in the past. When searching the being he found... Soul: intact. Mind: a bit foggy and full of rage. Hallucinations? Weird... no actual demon activity, but the blood... It took him a while, but he had figured out what it was. However, he had no cure for it. After that, Cas took to fighting. Now that it was all over, he felt dirty for reaching in to grab a soul. It reminded him too much of his power-hungry days. Instead, he tried to focus on good things- he wanted to do something in memory of Chuck and Kerai, but he found that he couldn't think of anything that seemed meaningful enough.

He was trying very hard not to feel hopeless again. It just seemed like nothing ever went his way. None of his real siblings seemed to be talking to him much these days. He spent the majority of his time here at the Wellness Center, and had taken to bringing Bernie to work with him for company. After that, sometimes he helped out with the creatures at The Sanctuary. He hadn't seen many of his friends since before the virus had taken over, but he knew they were all okay. The rest of his time was spent watching Meg more than actually spending time with her. He had an inkling that demons might easily feel... smothered, and therefore tried to limit their time together.

Castiel was currently at The Ribbon playing fetch with his dog, but honestly he wasn't putting much heart into it. Bernie could tell, and so he snatched up the toy and wandered off to go sit near the heat of the fireplace and chew for a bit. Cas poured himself a cup of coffee, then went over to look out the window to people-watch, letting out a deep discontented sigh.

[[OTA, nudge friends and canonmates! Under a cut, because it got long.]]
