Ok, back to our regularly scheduled headbanger118. First off a few thoughts on current events. Speaking as a GOP gal, I haven't the foggiest notion what all the hoopla was about Obama addressing school children. Reading the text of the speech, I was impressed with the tone of it, esp. where the responsibility of doing well in school was placed squarely on the shoulders of the students. It was both inspiring and challenging, and contained much of what I would've said had I been asked to write such a speech. I'm not sure lesson plans were necessary, but it was a good speech. Sadly, it was broadcast at the lunch hour, and many students had to watch it in a noisy cafeteria, or opt out of their normal lunch period (at least on the East Coast). I realize this was to get the broadcast in on the West Coast. Many schools in this area simply taped it and showed it at 2:00 p.m. Other than the logistics issue, I think it was well done. Ok, let my fellow GOP's begin the stoning. :P
Healthcare: I have no issue with everyone getting healthcare. What kind of monster would I be if I did? My issue is: WHO has read the entire 1000+ page bill? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? I admit that I have not, nor do I think many Congressmen/women have. I think everyone is an expert on their PART of the bill, but does anyone know the whole thing? Also, I continue to be concerned about how we are going to pay for this. Congress has already raised the debt ceiling, and who know where this will end. Will taking nearly half of the rich's paycheck pay for it? Will I eventually have to pay taxes for a plan I'm not using, since we already pay Bill's company for coverage? Will Bill's company opt out for the cheaper govt plan? Will Lassie save Timmy from the well? Is Timmy an illegal immigrant that will receive coverage? WHAT is going on???? Even after Obama's speech, I'm unsure of much. Ok, that's that.
And now for the headbanger's actual life: I've joined the Youth Praise Band at my church. We have 2 guitarist, a bass player, and yours truly on the keyboards. I'm having a blast with this. The kids are great; the leaders are motivated and cool; and I feel like I'm where God wants me to be. In other news, we had a great Labor Day weekend in Charlotte: saw our Fargo friends from Hickory, had a great dinner at my Sil's house, and went shopping at 2 malls. Great fun. OH! Big news! My mom is power-washing our house and having our lawn done for my Christmas present! (Ok, SHE'S not power-washing it; she's having it done.) YES! I've been meaning to have this done forever, and now it's being done for us. My mom rocks. :D Ok, that's life in the headbanger lane. Peace out.
