I found my tablet while cleaning today. It was glorious.I've had a love/hate relationship with the little guy ever since I got him. Tablets are great, and Wacom's pretty awesome about the plug 'n go versatility of it, but there's a learning curve, adjusting your hand/eye coordination to get it to be useful and not a hindrance ( Read more... )

Hey, writer friends. Fanfiction or otherwise.

How do you deal with public criticism on your work? In comments, reviews, etc.

Do you feel like it keeps other readers from leaving positive feedback? Opens the door for more criticism? Happy that someone took the time to point out weaknesses?

I've been recommended to Archive of Our Own and have thusly joined.

And I'm only three chapters in. I plan for 20. The math is not good.

I told elenuial last night, and he pointed out that I am writing the Silmarillion in length.

First step in the editing process after this, the "DUMP ALL THE TEXT" phase? Cutting out massive chunks where I can.

Outline done. Planning for 20 short chapters. Fanfiction-style, with the companion voted on. It's going to be huuuge. Like one of the people who read my stories said, "oneshots are like cookies. Time for a cheesecake."

I told elenuial I was doing it, and though he teased me about writing fanfiction, he commended me for being totally unapologetic about it. And, naturally, reminded me that he had suggested I try my hand at it years ago ( Read more... )

I kind of want to start writing fanfiction as a creative outlet.

Anyone have any opinions on fanfiction.net and that whole shebang? Beta readers?

I... don't really know how to start this. The only fanfiction I've ever written was a few years ago for nyren's Nobilis game, which was short and thoroughly ridiculous.
