“It’s been three days…” Angela sat at the hospital in a chair beside the bed where Vincent Nigel-Murray lay in a coma. He had slipped in the lab and fallen, hitting his head on the corner of a table. “Everyone says it’s quiet without you…I guess that, despite the fact that you babble on about random shit and they give you crap for it, they miss it…I mean I do too…oh, and hey, look who’s rambling now. Heh.” Angela sighed, shaking her head. “I’m sorry, honey, I don’t know what to say when you’re not, you know, responding.”

“Angie?” Jack walked into the room, putting his hand on Angela’s shoulder. “It’s late.”

“What are you doing here?” Angela turned around, looking at Jack.

“Just checking in on Vincent, he may ramble on and stuff, but he’s ballsy when it comes to unapproved experiments.”

“Of course.” Angela nodded. “You would appreciate him for that…” she rolled her eyes, but it quickly turned into a sigh.

“Angie, are you alright?” Jack pulled up a chair, sitting down next to Angela.

“I’m fine.” She nodded, looking back at Vincent.

“Angie, I know you well enough to know that you’re not.”

“I’m sorry.” She sighed. “I just don’t like seeing people I know in hospital beds…especially not people I like. I feel bad for giving him such a hard time. He’s always trying to talk to me about random things and I brush him off…”

“Angie, we all brush him off,” Jack stated. “You can’t blame yourself for this, accidents happen, it’ll be alright.” He put his arm around her, pulling her close. “Come on, Ange, let’s go home. Sitting here, it’s not gonna help, it’s late, you and I both need sleep, so does Vincent.”

“That’s not funny,” Angela stated.

“Yeah…sorry. It was worth a try.”

“Thank you, Jack.” Angela smiled as she stood up, taking Jack’s hand, though she was still looking down at Vincent. “God, he just looks like he’s sleeping.”

“He is sleeping,” Jack stated.

“Jack, he’s in a coma…” she shook her head. “That’s not exactly sleeping.”

“Trust me,” Jack whispered, squeezing Angela’s hand. “It’s going to be alright. He has so much going on in that brain, I’m sure he can keep himself occupied until he wakes up.”

“Jack, that’s also not funny…”

“I know.” He sighed. “Wasn’t trying to be funny that time, just honest.”

“Oh.” Angela bit her lip as they walked out of the room. “Well…then you might be right. He’s a bright kid.”

“Exactly.” Jack smiled, kissing his wife on the forehead. “Booth woke up, Vincent will too. Trust me.” He tilted his head to the side, kissing Angela again softly.

“Thank you, Jack…” Angela sighed. “I don’t know, you always make things seem a little bit better.”

“That’s why you married me.” He smiled, leading her towards the car. “Isn’t it?”

“I married you because I love you,” Angela stated. “The amazing sex, the money, the comfort, those are all just perks.”

“Aw.” Jack smiled, stopping by the car and putting his arms around Angela, leaning in and kissing her softly. “I love you too.”
