something good happened when I said goodbye to my mom
She gave me the biggest hug I have ever received int he last ten years of Alzheimer's. She said: 'you're okay. You came right on time. I'm glad you stayed and I'm glad you're here.'
Before I had even approached her to say goodbye she was already moving around in her bed like a small child. At five am, she smiled as if I had handed her a candy bar. 'oh, you're here.'
I wish I didn't have to leave her; it breaks my heart. It's hard enough getting down to NYC all three of us. I'll miss this experience. I hope i an find creative means of reliving it again.
