October was a BUSY month for me. I was in charge of all the mutual activities for the month at church, and since I can't ever do anything simple... I spent a lot of time preparing for that... then with Evan's basketball practices, getting costumes ready, and just life in general, I felt a little crazy sometimes. But it was all worth it in the end when I got to see my kids in their adorable costumes, and we got to spend time together as a family on Halloween. I love Halloween...
Evan told me he wanted to be Mario. He had a Mario costume from a few years ago, so he tried it on. I really wish I had taken a picture of him b/c it was hilarious. But it probably would've been inappropriate to post on the internet. hahaha I told him he didn't have to be Mario, he could be any Mario character. He thought about it and decided he wanted to be
Dry Bones. I looked up some ideas online, modified them, and came up with this.
Behold,
Dry Bones: The Costume!
So, basically, I already had a skeleton shirt which was very convenient. I bought some plain black pants (which was harder to find than I expected) and cut out some bones using glow in the dark duct tape, and put those on there. I cut out the Dry Bones face on foam board, and hot glued it to an old black hat which was turned backwards. I found a pan at the Dollar Tree, spray painted it white, and duct taped it to a backpack. I tried to cover his shoes with white felt, but it didn't stay, so we ended up taking them off. Evan was really pleased with his costume, even though while I was making it, he told me I've "done better." Geez... criticism from 5 year olds... I told him to go away, or he wasn't getting a costume at all. haha The only issue I saw was that most people have no idea who Dry Bones is, so Evan kept having to tell people he wasn't a skeleton, but Dry Bones. haha Oh, well. Obscure costumes are the best costumes, really... right? :)
Lauren told me that she wanted to be a witch, but I remembered that I had bought a pirate costume on clearance last year, so we talked about it, and she decided being a pirate was cool, too. The costume size was tricksy. It said it was for size 2-3, and then it said in small print that it was 4-5 in America... thanks, guys... But, luckily, I was able to pin it in the back, and make it work.
Arrrr be Lauren!
I bought the bandana at Walmart for $1. I thought it went with the costume perfectly. She was excited b/c I put eyeliner around her eyes. She got lots of compliments on her costume. I mean, look at her. She's stinkin' adorable in it. She's the cutest little pirate I've ever seen. Pirate was a popular costume this year, too. I saw 4 or 5 other pirates at our church trunk or treat.
But as cool as her pirate costume was, she REALLY wanted to wear the princess dress her Grandma Brown made for her. I told her if she would wear the pirate costume to the Trunk or Treat, then she could wear the princess dress to the library party.
So here's Lauren the princess.
Isn't that an amazing dress? I honestly thought she had bought it, but she made it. And Lauren wears it so well. :)
So, there's really not much else to explain about Halloween, so I guess I'll just post some more pictures from the Trunk or Treat and Halloween night.
I liked this picture of the kids.
I dressed as a Princess or something.
What Evan's shell looked like after wearing it to the Trunk or Treat... *sigh*
Andrew Libre
Here's the treats we left out for people while we went trick-or-treating. I wasn't sure if anyone would take the popcorn balls, but they were all gone! They were mighty tasty!
Andrew said he was supposed to be a coach. :)
I have more pictures, but I'll probably just post them to facebook later. I loved Halloween, but I'm glad it's over b/c now that means we're closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas!! Woohoo!
