Hi!
I am a new hamster owner. I bought a female Syrian yesterday. I named her Buttercup. With her I bought pine shavings (first mistake) and
natural cotton nesting material (second mistake). I don't live in the States and all the pet stores here only carry Pine and Cedar shavings, both very bad for the hammies. After researching I found out that cotton can hurt her or even kill her. Insert freaked out ham mom. This was way after I had put a little of it into her small house where she is currently sleeping in. I don't know if she's eaten some of it :( I am hoping she hasn't.
Should I wake her up now and remove the cotton? Or should I wait until she wakes up on her own and then clean that up and exchange it for unscented toilet paper?
I've also heard that it's recommendable that they take sand baths. Is this exclusive for dwarf hamsters or does it apply to Syrians as well?
Thank you in advance!
