A couple questions and a picture....putting it all under a cut to save your friends lists!
So I'm home for the week for spring break, and unfortunately, due to space issues, I've got the cages for Jasper (my Chinese Dwarf) and Millie (my robo) placed fairly close together. Millie is her normal, active, squirmy, nervous self. Jasper, on the other hand, is sleeping more, not eating as much, and not running on his wheel, which isn't like him. I'm wondering if it's the stress of the car ride, plus being so close to Millie, that's making him act funny. Or, could it be the fluctuating temperatures in my bedroom? My room gets all the afternoon sun so it's warmer during the day and I turn on my portable a/c only at night to save energy. What temperature do hamsters normally function best at? I'm thinking its cooler in here which is making him go into hibernation mode. I plan on moving Millie away from him to reduce some stress, but any other advice for the week that I'm home?
Also, I've had Millie for two weeks now, and she just hasn't warmed up to me yet. She runs from my hand, hides when I reach into the cage, and will not let me touch her. Jasper has come such a long way since I first got him and he's taken to me so well that it's frustrating to see Millie not warming up to me the way he did. Is this normal behavior for robos, to just be more standoffish and shy? She's eating, drinking, and running normally, just not when I'm near the cage.
And now, since I've bugged you with my questions, here is a picture of Jasper in his playpen being especially handsome.
