The same way most of these things start, we woke up this morning at 10AM having absolutely no idea what to do today. We started with breakfast. Eggs, toast, fried squash, and linguica...mmmmmmmmm. I sincerely believe that you can conquer the world after that kind of breakfast, but it is Sunday, and I was far too lazy to conquer anything but a second helping.
But it did get our minds functioning enough to figure out that a trip to the Bay Area was in order. We set out at two o'clock (hey, I said it was Sunday) and drove to Oakland.
Now for those of you who don't know, Oakland has a bad rap. I had a studio in Downtown Oakland for close to five years and still love to visit. We parked in front of my old apartment building and I showed Cassandra the sights. Which buildings were cool, which ones were not, which buildings looked cool on the outside, but were really ghetto on the inside, yada yada. We ended up walking all the way around Lake Merritt which was great because I hadn't done it in five years.
Both satisfied that we had worked off the morning's linguica, and having built up a killer apetite walking around the lake, we set out for Barney's Gourmet Burgers. Barney's makes the best Blackened Chicken Salad on the planet. I'm sorry, there is no disputing it. We each had one, along with a shared side order of curly fries, and the standard issue Turkish Coffee Milkshakes. Friggin Yummy. GREAT NEWS! There is now a Barney's in LA at 225 W 26th St in Santa Monica. If you live in the LA area, you HAVE to go. It's THAT good.
Having satisfied our jones for Barney's, we had a couple hours to kill before dusk, which is typically our sign to hit the road towards home. We drove a few miles to Alameda Beach on Alameda Island. It's the only sandy beach in the East Bay that I know of and it has a fantastic view of San Francisco. The hazy outline of the buildings in downtown SF just to the left the fiery orange sunset was breathtaking. Cassandra then wrote
'HAL & CASSANDRA'
in the sand with a big heart next to it.
That was my favorite part.
Anyways, that was our Sunday. I leave for LA before dawn in the morning to help Chris with some stuff and hopefully catch a shift down on the waterfront. Hope all is well and talk to everyone soon.
