Happy day before elections, everyone! I admit I'll be happy when it's over. I'm well-informed, and I like being well-informed, but the news has been nothin' but elections for the past month or so, and I'm quite looking forward to hearing stories that confirm my hunch that there's, you know, a world out there ( Read more... )

To me, Kari Reed for school board set off some flags - she homeschools her five kids, so it makes me question her dedication to public schooling. Her endorsements on MyVote are all under 18. And this:

Q: Do you have the answer to fix our school system?
A: I will look to other big cities for creative ideas to fix failing big city school systems.

But that's just my opinion.

Like Mr. Wisp, I only have opinions, but they are strong opinions.

Kari Reed is a no-no for me, as well, both because of the homeschooling and because she doesn't want more money going to the schools. I agree that more money by itself won't solve the schools' problems, but I can't imagine major change happening without money. But she's not as scary as these three:

  • Doug Mann, school board: "The so-called racial acheivement gap reflects the quality of education to which students have access. Nationwide, two-thirds of new teachers work in schools where black students are over-represented."
  • Tim Tanglestad, Minnesota Supreme Court associate justice seat 3: "I believe that justice is served when judges fear God and love the people"
  • Rahn Workcuff, Hennepin County Soil and water supervisor seat 3: "I strongly agree that a marriage should be only between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of same sex marriages. I strongly agree that all MN residence should have affordable health insurance. even if it means new or added cost to businesses ( ... )

There's also this voter guide which I think was put together by the League of Pissed-Off Voters--at least, that's who wrote the brochure in which I found the link.
