Struggles with the theater crowd

So I have just received e-mail from our director, who has criticised the Stage Manager (abbrev SM and it's more appropriate than you know if you have not done theater) for taking the cast to task for the following things:  not knowing our lines; showing up late to rehearsal; griping and complaining about things behind her back while not letting her ( Read more... )

The director is married to the artistic director and founder of the company, and is a revered and respected professor of drama at UCO in Edmond. He will be directing for OSP as long as he desires to do so. He is also, IMHO, a sweet, visionary, optimistic flake with lovely, pretentious sense of humor. You and I both know what kind of issues that personality type can get in to.

Thanks for pointing out the taoist nature of the advice; I had not yet made the connection. The giver of said advice is the best director I have ever worked for and I would work for him again anytime, anywhere, in anything. He is also a damn fine actor and his work--and that of a few other good folks in the show--will carry it. I am a minor luminary, but I do my part :-) !

Oh, one of...those directors.

and I would speculate upon the initials of the actor in question, but that would be tacky.

there are no minor luminaries, only minor walls upon which they shine.

Why tacky? I'm curious as to what you are thinking; your thought process is not the usual predictable dreary sort of thing most people have...
