Oh Captain! My Captain!
OMG!!!! I am so happy happy happy! I still have not come down from last night. I got to go to the screening of Serenity (any spoiler comments will be behind LJ Cuts but clicking on one of the cuts will reveal ALL SPOILERS so be warned) in Sacramento! MIGHTY FINE SHINDIG INDEED!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to the EXTREME generosity of the Sacramento Browncoats who scored tickets for some of us poor schlubs who didn't get to Fandango before the Screening sold out either time. Through them, I got tickets for myself, my brother, his girlfriend, and their roommate. All of whom I converted **proud Browncoat smile**.
We didn't manage to get seats together inside. But at least I had Kristin sitting with me (that's my brother's girlfriend). And then, OMG!!! NATHAN FILLION walks into the theater! Best thing ever! He talked to everybody for a bit and then they ran the filmed intro from Joss, which made me cry. Then they ran Serenity.
Okay, non-spoiler portion of the show here. Serenity WAS AWESOME. The criticisms I had heard that the crew, specifically Mal, was embarassingly "cowbow" in their accents, that the rescue of River was a specific contradiction of what had been established in the series, that the Reavers and/or their explaination was lame was total BS. As for other things I'd been spoiled on Book and Wash's deaths. I was moved by them but I understood them and I can continue to be a proud ardent fan. I was okay with everything. The movie simply rocked. I laughed, I cried, I was excited, I was afraid, I was watching between my fingers. It was amazing.
Afterwards, Nathan did a Q&A with everybody. And I managed to ask a question (which I can't repeat here because it's spoilerish) which is unusual for me cause I tend to freeze a bit. But I didn't throw up or pass out or anything which is awesome! *grin* Then we all got to line up for autographs. He gave everyone a signed (non-personalized because it was after midnight and the theater was wanting to close) Serenity cardstock poster. He shook everybody's hand and asked everybody's name and would tell them "Hi, I'm Nathan. Thank you for coming." (Yeah, we know you're Nathan silly, that's why the swooning and catcalling when you came out. **grin** Somebody raised this boy right.) So I got to shake hands with him too. And he asked me if I was the one that had asked him a question (and there were like a bazillion questions) and I told him I was and he thanked me. And yeah, it's totally fangirl of me to mention it because it was just him being all kinds of sweet but, screw it, I am a fangirl. **SQUEE**
I've never been happier that all the other names I wanted on the Official Serenity board were taken and I wound up with ShinyMalGal. Cause today, I AM both SHINY and a MAL GAL!
BEST DAY EVER!!!! And it actually brought me out of my new DrWho obsession for a few hours... don't that just beat all :)
