One of these three photos will make it to the "Night Picture" challenge in photochallenge



Probably this one, a draw bridge over Neva in St. Petersburg. "Dvortsovy Most" if I am not mistaken:


Seeing how today Russia celebrates Victory Day, the other two are appropriate... Two ends of the same large memorial/park in Moscow (Poklonnaya Gora (the link is to someone else's site)) dedicated to the victory over the Nazi Germany in 1945. It was completed for the 50th anniversary, in 1995, 5 years after we left Moscow. The red fountains symbolize the blood spilled by the soldiers defending the country, and the lengh of the memorial impresses on you the long road to victory. An estimated 25 million(!!!!!) Soviet citizens died in the war. You can see the Arch of Triumph in the distance in this picture:

And now I must call my grandparents and congratulate them with Victory Day as has been the custom for as long as I can remember... I really should dig up an essay I wrote in highschool on this topic...
