The latest challenge on photochallenge was City/Town/Village Life. I didn't submit anything. I couldn't find anything I liked in the pictures I've taken that I felt was a strong contender, and I didn't want to go with the oh so prevalent "look, here is a street sign", or "here is my city's skyline". The community definitely helps me expand my horizons a little, but because I shoot film, unlike the majority of members, it takes a while to finish the roll and get it processed. Personally I noticed I tend to shoot mostly landscapes, and sometimes macro, or at least as macro as my lens allows. I need to try something new, which is part of the reason I joined the community in the first place. I did think about this challenge when i was walking around Boston last weekend, so who knows, maybe there are some decent interpretations of my ideas for this challenge on there. Better late than never.

It has now come time to vote for the best three pics. I looked through all 115 entries. What a giant waste of time... I am not sure what I was looking for, but I knew that when I saw it I'd know it. What I wanted to see was black and white, gritty, dark. I was looking for rain or the feeling of being surrounded and at the same time anonymous. Large buildings, blurry shapes. Some pictures showed promise, like this one and this one, but mostly, I came away disappointed. I couldn't bring myself to vote for more than one. Here is the one I voted for. Not exactly what I was looking for, but it surprised me, and I liked it.

The new challenge is "Night Picture". I am bracing myself for more unfocused, blurry images. But I feel like I have something to submit for this one. I'll probably use of my Moscow or St. Pete pictures from last summer.
