I love my horse

Had a lesson with Whin last night. We started out trying to get a nice stretchy trot and get that relaxed back feel but Whin would just curl up and then root down. She was tense and rammy so enough is enough and I began pushing her around. Lots of shoulder-ins and haunches-in. She settled quite nicely after a bit and then had a lovely trot. We did some excellent canter work as well which is nice as her canter is her worst gait-all unbalanced and rushed. Poor Whin was foamy but despite her arguments in the beginning, she was quite game to work and we had a great ride.
I had to ride Russell immediately after so Oden hopped on Whin bareback in a halter cool her out.
She makes me laugh. As hot and quick as she is, she is so good and careful with him. Cadenz was out as well on her pony. She's 8 and has been riding for a few years now and is Oden's barn buddy. They were "racing" (Whin walks quickly on the inside and Cadenz trots slowly on the outside) and doing cones etc while I was riding Russell around. Oden is getting the hang of it and was able to keep Whin off the rail and out of everyone's way which was awesome.

Finishing up with Whin later, she looked so happy. She was bright-eyed and you could almost see the contentedness in her eyes.

Russell...omg what a booger. He's quite round through the topline and a really good boy but UGH he's got such a baby brain! He's coming 4 and has no idea that he has 4 legs and holy ADD!! I really enjoy working with him but oh man do I hurry up and get him outside after I'm done riding him just because he's so busy...moving around, pawing, chewing at anything he can reach... such a baby brain. He's so quiet in the tack though. He loves the busy arena and is very willing. STill totally opposite of Whin though-she takes a 1/3 of an ask and Russell takes 3 asks before I get anything. Hyper sensitive to not sensitive.

Heading to the lake this weekend for my grandpa's 82 birthday. It will be nice to have everyone together and it could be his last one so we are all braving the cold (-33!!) to be there on Saturday.
