Up My Sleeve

Well troops, as you may or may not know, I almost always have something up my sleeve besides an arm. These days, most of my time is being spent crocheting a vintage throw for m y daughter-in-law Bea, for her birthday present. I 'm making it in a yarn that's only slightly thicker than thread crochet yarn. It's in a very soft and pretty, creamy off white color.

At the beginning of the project I was having a lot of problems with the pattern and found myself ripping rows open and starting over again till I got it right. After much frustration and backtracking, I finally found my rhythymn. I am now in the process of finishing it with a fancy edging and am coming into the home stretch. It will be done in time for Bea's birthday in a few weeks.

The other project I'm up to is writing a monthly column on indoor gardening for our in-house monthly newsletter.

Additionally, I've been involved with the periodic cookouts and parties that a core group of us have downstairs in the community room every few weeks. This weekend, we're celebrating the birthdays of two residents, Pat and Mike. Say! Wasn't that a movie with Spencer Tracy an d Katherine Hepburn? Anywho, we all make a different dish and contribute $2 towards the cost of the meat. This time I'm making a berry and pudding trifle. Also, sadly, a resident died suddenly last week, at the age of 51. We're having a remembrance repast for him this \Wednesday night.

Then, I have to kick it into gear for a community multi-cultural/craft fair coming up in October. My friend and I will share a space and I've goit lots to make between now and then.

And finally, I am planning on creating a gods and services directory for the residents of the building. We have people here who cook, bake, photograph, story-tell, cut hair, crochet, quilt, and fix computers, just to name a few. I think a directory will be a welcome thing.

So that's my doings at the moment. What have y'all been up to? ( Besides no good) :)
