4 - Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?
Hmm. Does it count if I say I've learned never to tell them to shut up? No, probably not. On contemplation, it's not that I have characters who force their ways in. It's more that I have several who will look up if a story stalls and go, "Want a hand?" Dropping them in does usually start the story rolling faster, too. Cases in point: Lucien LaCroix (
Keeping the Wolves From The Door); Alex Krycek (
Souls Unbodied), Cory Raines (
The Devil's Own &
This Mortal Coil), and Joe Dawson, about whom enough kind things cannot be said (
In Media Res,
Handled With A Chain,
Identity Crisis).
If we're talking about characters I just find easy to write? Lucien LaCroix, to my shock (
the Nightcrawler monologues and
Drowning). Connor MacLeod (
Talents,
It'll Never Work,
Focus). Oz (from Buffy) (
Ill-Met By Moonlight,
Guises,
Fire in the Hole). Sunda Kastagir (
Shades of Night, that
Burn Notice crossover). Alex Krycek (
And Sinister,
Cornered Rat,
Doppelganger). Matthew McCormick (
Appearances;
Parched;
Horseshoes, Hand Grenades, Homicidal Maniacs ). Diefenbaker (yes, the wolf) (
Hot Pursuit,
Junctures) Rebecca Horne (
Antiquities). Cameron Mitchell (
Not to Plan).
As to why them? I have no idea, honestly. My best bets? Cam and Matthew are Southerners; Connor and LaCroix are observant, cynical bastards; Dief and Kastagir are people persons; and Oz and Rebecca are just good company.
