Map Quest by
joanwilder. Opens wonderfully--I love Harry's ritual of naming himself as he leaves. There's not a plot--Harry cycles through Europe in search of peace and finds Snape on the way--but the description is good enough that nothing lags. Hot Snape/Harry wall sex. God I love wall sex.
What Dire Offence by Miriam Heddy. A sweet, medium-length story. After a bad Quidditch injury, Harry starts teaching at Hogwarts. Unexpectedly, he is neither great at it nor does he like it. Even more unexpectedly, he begins to like Snape a lot more, especially compared to the snotty students. They're adorable together, but I would have liked a little more bitterness between them. There is plenty of snark, though.
Crazy Man Michael by
amanuensis1 (*can* she write a bad story? The world will never know.) Post HBP, I was curious about Harry's feelings toward the Half Blood Prince himself, the wizard who bolstered his self-esteem, boosted his grades, and raised some serious moral quandries before finally turning out to be someone Harry absolutely hates. It's got to be a complicated mess in Harry's head. Amanuensis shows exactly that--plus some crazily erotic Snarry sex.
Thyself a Memory by
nimori. The Ministry wipes Snape's memory in an effort to allow criminals like him back into society. Harry offers to take care of him afterward, which obviously leads to some complications. To further sully the mix, Snape's mind is not a complete blank. Angst!
In Between Days by Atrata. "AmbiguouslyTrustworthy!Snape kidnaps ClinicallyDepressed!Harry to keep him safe, but nothing is quite what it seems." First off, this is a long fic, and rightly so. It gets through a whole lot of Harry's damage, and a whole lot of manipulation and Snape's many many defenses (most of which are red herrings) before any relationship can start, which is how it should be. There's also a plot--a real live one, complete with hints in the beginning, a slow build, and an eventual climax. Woah! I was truly surprised, because it is rare to find an HP fic that manages to have a realistic confrontation with Voldemort. The whole thing felt very realistic--I loved how off-kilter Snape kept Harry, and how dogged Harry was, and how cursedly twisted Snape felt the need to make the whole situation.
A Lesson In Breaking by
fleshdress. Harry taunts Snape one too many times--sex that is dubiously consent-y at best follows. Read it for the angst and the excrutiating details, not for a happy ending.
