non H/D Harry Potter fanfic recs

These recs aren't as detailed as I'd like, but I need to clean up my computer. Enjoy!

Break His Fall by Jane St.Clair. Remus Lupin has a meeting with John Constantine. A realistically dark view of the War, the children, and Constantine himself. Here's an exchange between them:
'"Give me a good reason."
"Survival of all that's bright and clean."
"A good reason. For the survival of wizarding suburbia..."'

Arctic by Jane St. Clair is another instance of Lupin as ambassador to a different canon--this time, to the His Dark Materials series. It's a slightly dreamy, rather Russian story.

One last crossover: Untitled by sam_storyteller. In which House tries to cure Remus Lupin--abundantly adorable, with a fiendishly clever House!voice and snarktastic!Snape.

These Walls, These Days by cjmarlowe. All too often, McGonagall gets short shrift. This story shows not only her capable and wise facade, but also the grief that comes from having seen too much.

Black Widow (The Blaise's Mom Has Got it Going On Tango) by marksykins. Oh man, does MarkSykins have a serious way with words. A beautifully executed example of minimalism as we watch Mrs. Zabini meander her deadly way through society. I love the progression of both her character and Blaise's.

The New Mrs. Zabini by nopejr. '
"But, really, Hermione," Harry whined. "What about me? Or, or, Neville! Or... Anyone except Zabini!"' Heh.

Thyself In Me by Branwyn. Narcissa's mind is a flat and featureless plain until Draco comes along.

Cliche #5 by rageprufrock. An adorable Marauders story. Sirius/Remus, natch. Not a hint of darkness anywhere, thankfully.

Ashes by Lazy_neutrino. Just in case y'all were getting complacent, here's a punch to the gut. 'Sixteen years ago, Lily Potter made the wrong choice.'
The story is compelling and a frightening twist on the good old "mommy sacrifices herself to save baby" cliche. I love the author's style, which is reminiscent of some of my favorite Eastern Bloc poets from the Cold War.

The Queen by chokolattejedi. More good minimalism! So rare in drabbles these days! I love when authors provide just the right amount of information. Ron and Harry play chess.

Bed and Board by Resonant. Hot Trio sex!

Contract of Employment by penknife. "Contract for employment of a teacher at Hogwarts (including salary, benefits, expectations, code of conduct, etc." Heheh!

Black Widow by fourth_rose. Pansy Parkinson married Draco because it is expected, and has two sons by him for the same reason. As the War rages on another continent, she is forced to make a difficult choice between her comfortable life and the sinister voice from inside her heirloom locket.

Smoke Instead of Sunlight by MusIgneus. Longish Snape/Lupin, set during the War.
