it probably won't improve my health any, but i think i might drink more tea and less coffee. earl grey has won me over from early in 2006 (when a friend suggested it to me during a departmental tea) and i like it more than chai now ( Read more... )

I like your new principle. I am going through a similar realization lately, prompted by large Christmas parties with strangers, that I spent cowering in unoccupied rooms. I definitely think that, at least for us introverts, being social is a skill that must be constantly worked on, otherwise it gets lost.

Anyway, I think I am making the same resolution: I want to be more social in 2007, too!

that's the thing, amy-chica. i don't know if i want to be more social, but i know it will help me. being a mathematician doesn't improve my introversion; rather it exacerbates.

if i don't change now, i don't know if i ever will.

I have some other tea blends that are pretty robust - more than Earl Grey, I think. To me that's even a fairly weak blend. Remind me sometime and I'll drop some off at your office when you're in.

i find earl grey to be robust without being overly bitter, but i'm always welcome to suggestions.

I use cream and sweetener in mine, so I may not be the best judge. The Darjeeling blend from Bigelow is a good one in bagged tea, as is the British Blend from Tetley (round bags, blue/purple box I think). The aroma on the Darjeeling is just heavenly. I've got some loose teas that I can drop off bits of if you're still interested.

mm. i'm not much of a tea drinker, but when i was taking my permaculture course, we were exposed to "wildcrafted" teas -- basically herbs that were foraged and dried by an herbalist type person. All the teas we had were wildcrafted and therefore had custom names -- which for a non-tea-drinker-- was really the only reason to drink it. My favorite was "I'm Batman!"

I agree with the new meta principle too. It definitely takes practice to be in social situations. I recently went to a holiday party also and actually had fun. I had to force myself not to leave before it started, but it was worth the experience of chatting with folks and saying hello. but it definitely takes practice...

sometimes i'd rather forget that the world is a social place.
