My mother loves animals. My house as I grew up was a virtual menagerie. Dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, parakeets, even an iguana. I couldn't share this enthusiasm across the board you see. I cannot live with animals that I am highly allergic to, or ones that make huge shitty & pungent messes-which pretty well covers all of the above except dogs. I mean I am allergic to dogs, but I wasn't for the first 20 years of my life.
There are few people I have seen who loves animals this much. My mom is such a person. In her huge heart there is a big spot reserved for critters. So its especially rotten & sad when bad things happen to good pets owned by good people that truly love them.
Bellatrix is the name given to my mother's great dane puppy when she picked her out from the breeder not even two years ago. The beautiful dane grew to adulthood well, but has been vomiting constantly and not eating for quite a while now. Attempts to help her via the family vet have been unfruitful. He recommended they take her to Michigan State University Veterinary Hospital. They brought her there last Thursday, Sept 18th. Since then, it has been a roller coaster of good and bad reports. All the tests, poking and proding have come to no avail.
They brought her home from the hospital today. Sad to say she still is not eating. The doctors were unable to do anything to improve her condition. She's gotten pretty boney; and she's tired and weak. My mother keeps hoping beyond hope that maybe tomorrow morning she'll feel like eating, but that has been the hope all along and has not happened. Now facing a stunning hospital bill to pay, my mom was forced to opt out of a bioposy surgery, which would increase her already huge bill and not necessarily tell her anything promising. She has most reluctantly decided to put poor Bella down today.
The image below is not Bellatrix because I don't have a picture of her. However, her markings are very similar & her ears & tail were not cropped. So its the best tribute I can muster. A picture of how healthy I remember her. I especially love great danes. They're quick to trust & are rather gentle despite their size... except when riled up of course. Then there is a good chance something in your home will get broken.
I feel rotten for my mom. & much worse for Bella. Rest in peace, good dog.
