My dreams, they've got to kiss, because I don't get sleep...

the crazies of berkeley
on the bus to work the other day a woman sat next to me, about in her 50s or so, who talked the entire ride to her stuffed animal horse, "betsy," that she kept in a fanny pack around her waist with the horse's head and neck sticking out in front of her.
"betsy! gosh darn it where did you put my card!?"
the experience left me in complete ambivalence, half of me feeling sad for her that she was obviously mentally ill, and half of me wanting to burst out laughing because the experience was so ridiculous.

eye doctor
so i went to get some new glasses (photos to come someday soon) at the eye doctor. after going through the general tests the assistant put those awful, stinging eyedrops in my eyes to dilate my pupils and sent me to the back waiting room to wait for the doctor. half blinded by the sensitivity of the light, plus starting to see double of the objects in front of me, i all of the sudden hear the sound of chains. right then, two armed guards come in, behind them some psycho criminal with hands and legs chained, arms tied to his body, being escorted by another guard, come and sit next to me. so there i sat, half blind, with three armed guards and a chained man kicking over a table of magazines. beyond amusing.

the uk
today i recieved my letter of admission to the glasgow school of art in scotland for the spring semester!!! i am absolutely thrilled. plus it ends up that when i'm going to amsterdam at the end of this summer for my fall semester it is cheaper to fly into london and then take a small flight from london to amsterdam, so there is a chance i get to go to london for a few days at the end of the summer and see my favorite city in the world! JOY! i do hope that works out. i'm really beginning to look forward to next year.

popscene
laura and i have embarked to the greatest dance club known to mankind. last thursday, and every thursday henceforth, we went/will go to popscene in san francisco. the music ranges from the smiths and the cure to le tigre and gorillaz (who's new video, by the way, is awesome. jamie hewlett amazes me.), plus there is always a live band, usually from europe, (last week's from london), AND the crowd consists completely of girls and gay men so you can dance the night away without ever being grabbed at or hit on! it's paradise! trendy without being obnoxious, too young, or pretentious.

ACCI Gallery
my internship at the art gallery has proved to be more than wonderful. from monday through friday i spend my time doing window displays, designing future exhibition layouts, selling art and jewelry, contacting media sources for advertisements on future events, and basically anything i chose to do since they aren't paying me. plus the ladies i work with are absolutely lovely and kind, and always make a point to tell me how appreciative they are for my help.
i also applied for a night job at a bookstore to make some money, but i haven't heard back from them yet so that doesn't look too good. i guess 12 hour work days might be pushing it anyways, but it would still be a fun way to earn some cash. hanging out with books is always a delight, just to basque in my nerdiness.

from here on out...
tonight: jazz concert and fireworks at Mondavi winery

future: gravy train!!! concert next weekend, plus le tigre and beck the week after.

attitude: courtesy of emily dickinson, to change my state of mind from poem I to poem II

I
Pain has an element of blank;
It cannot recollect
When it began, or if there were
A day when it was not.

It has no future but itself,
Its infinite realms contain
Its past, enlightened to perceive
New periods of pain.

II
If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
