So I've been watching the tv show Being Erica. I've gotten as far as episode 7 of season 3. I have to say, I am utterly charmed by this show.

I love how Erica changes so realistically. I love how the show sends her backwards, forwards, sideways, and through the looking glass. Most of all, I love the relationships with the women in her life.

Julianne is fantastic. She and Erica start out with one relationship and then there they are singing along to the radio in a magenta car. "I didn't heart you then the way I heart you now, chicken." Maybe because we got to see it from the very beginning, this is one of my favorite relationships in the show. I liked them coming to respect each other, I like the two of them negotiating the changes in their relationship, I like that Julianne wasn't all surface and no depth but instead is quite savvy.

I like Judith, and would like to see some more of her. One thing I found interesting about her was that, particularly in the episode where Jenny was harassing the geeky girl, Fiona, Judith didn't try to stop Jenny or even feel remotely sorry about what was going on. Only Erica did. I'm curious to know if that's because Erica is more emotional than Judith, so Judith can just think "not my problem" and actually believe that? Or does she not regret things the way Erica does, meaning she felt bad about it afterwards but let it go the way Erica CAN'T. I'm only wondering because Judith is in the background of a lot of Erica's "I wish I had spoken up" type of regrets. From a narrative standpoint I get it, it's not Judith's story and having her feel bad as well would complicate things, but I was just curious.

I am so glad Sam dumped Josh. That being said, I liked her taking Erica to task during Erica's do-over day. What she said about Erica not having room to judge was true and Erica needed to hear it even though she certainly didn't want to hear it.

I like Erica's relationship with her mother. It could have been so cliche, with the nagging mother and the dad who is always in the right, but they took a different route.

On the topic of breakups, Erica made the right choice in breaking up with Ethan. I think they are great together as friends, but he really wasn't right for her. He wasn't a bad guy, just not the guy she needed and she saw that and did what she needed to do. Go Erica! Also, the fact that he didn't want her being friends with guys made me uncomfortable. Although I do want her to have male friends without anything romantic added.

One thing about the show, though, is that I think I supposed to like Kai way more than I do. I don't dislike him, I just don't care. Whenever he's onscreen I start thinking "okay, okay, don't care lets get back to Erica's family/job/girlfriends/past" and I can't bring myself to muster up any emotion for him. Apparently this is not the general fan consensus?

I just wanted to add: oh, Leo. I love every interaction between Leo and Erica. *sniffles*

Great show, overall.
