I dare you.
Three tiny words that caused so much irreparable damage when he was nothing but a whet-behind-the-ears youth.
Three words that drove his life forward.
So much blood on his hands.
He wasn't weak. He was strong.
He carried the burden with a quiet dignity.
He had done wrong by Hermione, yet she forgave him.
Tonight he would dare again.
Dare to face death like a man, not a coward; not a weak willed teen.
He would stand tall because of her love and forgiveness.
With her, he dared to dream, to fight, to love.

I dare you.
Of course, Albus had never used those words directly but that was what he was doing with each and every mission he set Snape.
Testing his loyalty to the limits. Daring him to surrender or fail.
Tonight was the ultimate challenge. Tonight he would pass on the truth to Potter.
Tonight he may well die for the cause.
He dared not think further than that.
He would face the Dark Lord and take the consequences.
She was worth it, his Hermione. She who saw the whole and didn't back down.
He would draw strength from her love.
