A recurrent theme in his life. He wasn't a coward, he wasn't someone who caved in when the situation looked bleak. He was a fighter, he had the Marauders to thank for that.
"I dare you to pluck the Mudblood," Bella hisses
Severus' blood runs cold. Hermione lay in the floor before him, blood seeping from the graffiti Bella had etched with her blade.
Time seemed to cease, Hermione locked eyes with him, silently pleading with him.
"Forgive me," he whispers in her ear. "Please, forgive me, my love."
As Bella crows her delight Hermione forgives him.
