Severus Snape stood and glowered at the bronze sculpture in front of him. Hermione took an inordinate interest in the tourist pamphlet clutched in her hand.
"So, this somehow represents the industrial high point of the area?" Snape sneered. Hermione nodded, and made an attempt to read the inscription that wound around the roll being carried between two workmen.
"Linoleum," he drawled, sneeringly.
Hermione straightened up to face him and put her hands on her hips. "Don't take that tone with me, Severus. You asked for somewhere typically mundane and Muggle, and this place is almost the definition of that."
Hermione blustered on. "Don't blame me if, when you want to 'get away from it all', you dump all the arrangements in my lap with no further input except it shouldn't include going abroad, beaches or Wizard hotels," she counted off on her fingers.
"Just be thankful, Severus Snape, that I didn't take us to Milton Keynes to watch the Solstice sun rise along the central street and illuminate the shopping complex with first light!" She turned her back to him, and after a moment he wound his arms around her in conciliation.
"Still," he said, feeling her relax. "Staines?"

Staines is a fairly ordinary town in Surrey, for which the definition of Muggle and mundane really seems to fit (sorry to anyone who lives/lived there, but there are worse things it could be). There seems to have been a lot of things in history that have passed through the place, staying overnight on the way to somewhere more memorable. This remains the same today. The statue mentioned is in honour of the lino factory that closed a generation ago.
Milton Keynes is a town in Buckinghamshire of modern construction that actually was designed from its inception to have the summer solstice sun shine along the central shopping centre on Midsummer Boulevard. Kinda sums it up.
