Echoes of words. She had to know. After all this time, she finally found the courage to return.
The stain on the floor of the Shrieking Shack was the first thing that caught her eye, brown with age. Strangely, no dust seemed to have settled on it. She fell to her knees, hot tears falling freely. Tears of love, long lost. Hermione turned her head and shut her eyes briefly to stop the flow.
And then she saw it. Another stain on the opposite wall. Brown with age.
The tears returned. Tears of hope.
