Who are the Inferi? Where did they come from? What will they become?

OK here it goes....

Who are the Inferi? Where did they come from? What will they become? (well if this is not the end of their life span?)

The inferi, as we have already been described in the HBP, were wizards, men, women and children.

*(575) Inferius info
~ "the lake was churning, white heads and hands were emerging from the dark waters."
~Men, women and children with sunken sightless eyes were moving toward the rock:an army of the dead rising from the black water. (note that the water near where Snape's house is is also black.)
~(Harry used Petrificus Totalus on one of them)
~ their bony hands clawing at it's slippery surface (of the rock)
~ their blank frosted eyes upon him
~ trailing waterlogged rags
~ sunken faces leering
~ (other spells Harry used... Impedimenta! Incarcerous! Sectumsempra! and note they have no blood to spill so the last one was worthless against them.)
~ (so what happened to their blood? Vampires? Na. lol.)
~ fleshless arms cold as death.

But where did they come from?

*(565) a dead man lying face up inches beneath the surface, his open eyes misted as though with cobwebs, his hair and his robes swirling around him like smoke."

AH so this is a wizard... wonder who or even if we knew him before? My idea is that these particular inferi had to have been here for a long time. Maybe victims from long ago, murders done durring Voldemort's first reign.

*(566) wizards,*(575) men, women and children alike in the lake as Inferi....

I think about the victims from the muggle Brockdale Bridge-- murders, they could make more people or inferi who could be in another lake.

It is my belief that in order to have this many dead people in this lake in the cave there had to have been mass murders where many of the dead were not recoverable. We were already told that the Dementors are breeding why not then should we also believe that Voldemort might me making more inferi too? Think about the bridge and giant attacks with the muggles.

*(page 2)"Brockdale Bridge was fewer than ten years old, and the best experts were at a loss to explain why it had snapped cleanly in two, sending dozens of cars into the watery depths of the river below."

*(12) Brockdale Bridge-- murders, Voldemort threatened Fudge with a mass muggle killing if he didn't stand aside and ____" (and what?)

What did Voldemort want Fudge to stand aside for? I know he's not just sitting around waiting for Draco or just causing riots and murders on a plain scale. He's up to something else but what? Hmm? No spacifics were given. Oh well.

When I was in the process of making this theory, I was going to try to make a link between the inferi and the dementor's. I made one goof in my thoughts, but still I will try to reach what may still be a viable link, wit what's left of my clues. So let's stretch a bit.

The Dementor's appearance....

"There was a hand protruding from the cloak and it was glistening, grayish, slimy -looking, and scabbed, like something dead that decayed in water...." (POA 83 Harry meets his first dementor on the train.) also note the words Rowling made in a paragraph later on the same page.."Harry's eyes rolled up into his head. He couldn't see. He was drowning in cold. There was a rushing in his ears as though of water." That's where the screams started. The top of the next page talks about the screams and how he wanted to help whoever it was but, "but he couldn't... a thick white fog was swirling around him, inside him."

Again on page *(178 of POA) these same type words were used again. ..."At least a hundred dementor's, their hidden faces pointing up at him, were sanding beneath him. It was as though freezing water were rising in his chest, cutting at his insides." That's when the screaming starts again...(oh and this was the part at the quidditch game.)

"If it can, the dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like it'self.. soul-less and evil. You will be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life." Lupin to Harry(poa chapter 10, page 187)

Ok enough with the quotes... I'm sure you might see where I'm going with this. Are the inferi simply an early stage in the making of a dementor? Too many similarities... the glistening, grayish, slimy -looking, and scabbed, like something dead that decayed in water. Then where do we see the inferi while they lay dormant? In the lake, the icy lake. Think about the words Rowling described how Harry felt whenever a dementor was near. One more quote..

*(574-575) "He flunk himself over the edge of the rock and plunged the goblet into the lake bringing it up full to the brim of icy water that did not vanish."

Harry filling the goblet from the lake to give to DD after he drank the potion... I have more of this theory that concerns DD but I'll save it for later.

Or maybe it's the other way around, the inferi might be the left over people that had their souls sucked out by a dementor? "A dementor's last and worst weapon is called the Dementor's Kiss. The dementor puts back it's hood and clamps it's jaws on the mouth of the victim and sucks out his soul. leaving him an empty shell, alive but completely, irretrievabley "gone." (POA, chapter 12 and 20)

So if my theory is correct then the inferi were once Voldemort's victims. They later were turned into inferi by Voldemort then put into the lake for the time being. Later when the Dark Lord decides it's time to do more killings, he could just set the inferi on people or even worse.. finish the transformation and voila! a dementor is born.
