Franz Ferdinand's You Could Have It So Much Better reminds me of the early mornings when I used to take the MRT to work, while trying to crash Gokinjo Monogatari (which, I've finally finished).
Anyway, the Franz Ferdinand concert was really quite fantastic, except for the sound system -- which, we really could have had it so much better. It was quite abysmal, in fact, and the sound came out jarring. Everything else was good though, even though they did seem to have gone offkey once or twice. I thought they sound much more raw and intimate in person than on CD. Alex is very funny, and he has a really great voice, if not for the -- I must emphasise -- poor sound system. :\
The band also struck me as multi-talented... they were all switching instruments at one point! The session keyboardist Andy took over the percussions, and the drummer Paul went to play guitar. XD The guitarist Nick also plays the keyboards -- even the vocalist Alex could play the keyboards too.
They had some shortcomings too... especially the parts where their songs are already repetitive. They just stood behind their mic stands playing. Fortunately, this improved as the show progressed.
The band came dressed in skinny jeans and retro hairstyles that made them appear rather laid back and unassuming. Alex, notably, was wearing a rather kitsch black shirt with pink floral design and skinny pinstriped pants. They looked every bit as you'd expect them to be -- I can't really describe it! They just looked very..Franz Ferdinand, for want of a better description. XD
We were deciding between the standing and the seated tickets when we decided on the latter because we thought it'd be nice to get some sort of a "bird's eye" view of the stage. Unfortunately, even though hucks logged in to buy the tickets the minute they were on sale, he only managed to get the fifth row?! Even though we were right in the centre. But why! hucks says the first five rows must have been free tickets, or something. (Then later, I saw my ex-editor saunter to a seat at the front row... with her colleague who was wearing a FF t-shirt. :X) During the performance, however, I remember thinking, if only I'd got the standing tickets...
And when the show started, people who were seated behind us started to stream down to the front. They didn't block my view or anything, but it was kinda annoying and rude, I thought? (It never happened once when I attended such seated performances in Japan...) Speaking of which, the band held four performances in Japan, before they came to Singapore! Oh, if only I could have watched them there. :X
Oh, during the performance, they told the audience they were staying at Intercontinental Hotel, and asked everyone to pack some food (because Singaporean food is amazing, they said) and look for them at the hotel lobby? I half wanted to go and see... but hucks said they might not have been serious?! Does anyone know? Haha.
Overall, I think they were very charismatic... and I impressed(?) myself a little because I actually knew every single song they played, hoho. They're a great band, and I would pay to watch them again!
