An already sad day has gotten sadder...Larry Smith, seller of books to large portions of the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast, passed away this morning. Came up from dinner and saw an e-mail on the BSFS list linking to the announcement on Making Light that author/editor/folklorist/Compton Crook winner Josepha Sherman passed away last night. I noted in today's Washington Post the passing of Miep Gies, the heroic Dutch woman primarily responsible for hiding Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis.

As reported elsewhere on mailing lists, and LJ, long-time gamer and BSFS member Hal Haag passed away yesterday after a heart attack. I didn't know Hal well, but certainly saw him at many conventions and BSFS meetings, and we at least always exchanged cheerful hellos ( Read more... )
