Let my spirit carry me...

Last night when we were making dinner, our Red Tail Hawk swooped in and landed on the back of one of our deck chairs. By the time Jim called me and I grabbed the camera, he had hopped along the deck rail and was sitting on one of the chairs closer to the house. As I tried to maneuver myself around to get some kind of shot, he swooped back off ( Read more... )

LOL! You should have stopped in for dinner! We were having Pulled Pork sandwiches and homemade coleslaw - and there was plenty!

well you see that's the reason why you should always carry your camera around with you - on a strap around your neck ...

Yes, but if I ALWAYS carried my camera around with me, in a strap around my neck, it would get in the way of the hugs and kisses. A girl MUST have her priorities... even if it means missing the shot!

well not if the strap goes from one side of your neck across your chest down to your side where the camera would end up ... then it wouldn't get in the way of hugs and kisses ...

All we get is small stuff in our back yard - grackles, goldfinches, cardinals, robins, morning doves, and the like. Definitely nothing as interesting as a red tail hawk. I'm envious.

I'll have to check with Dorothy. Now that my gall bladder surgery is not imminent, travel is back on the table.

Excellent! That was a better answer than I was expecting. We are doing an apple picking party on September 26th. Its a Saturday. Maybe that weekend? Or we can do just us any time!

Landing on the deck WAS a continuation. Saturday morning I was sitting on the deck with a friend and we heard a crash in the trees that line the back. The hawk swooped through the backyard, not six feet off the ground, with a bluejay in hot pursuit! Moments later another crash in a tree in a neighbor's yard and the hawk landed! They are graceful flying, but WAY too big to be graceful coming and going, LOL.

We get lots of interesting wildlife. In my backyard, I have seen deer, foxes, pheasants, turkey and I have heard coyotes. And I saw a coyote crossing the road once, not far from my house. We also think we saw bear tracks, but I am happy to report NOT having seen bears, LOL!
