I was bartending last night, and reading some of the things on the walls I usually ignore. Being the oldest pub in Worcester, Moynihan's is saturated with stories and a history all its own. I love that about it. Anyway, there's a lot of those Irish wall hangings...with Irish proverbs on them..."May the sun always shin on your face, way the wind be in your sails, may your potatoes not go bad" you know, all that jazz...
It got me thinking about what kind of advice I'd like to leave behind someday; and since I've finished my homework early- here's a taste.
JENN PHAIAH'S 22 RULES TO LIVE BY
1) If you drop something, pick it up, don't watch it blow away. Let that one marinate for a second.
2) Always share your cigarettes when someone asks for one. Especially if you don't know them.
3) Read The Communist Manifesto
4) Challenge your faith. That applies to Religious zelots and Athiests alike. Both can be ignorant.
5) Live honestly.
6) Wu Wei.
7) Smile at people on the street.
8) Smile at yourself.
9) Be open to learning.
10) Admit when you're wrong
11) Admit when you're right
12) Don't leave that last sip of milk in a cup for weeks on end. Sour milk smells.
13) Drink your favorite wine/beer at least once a week.
14) Be kind- rewind. Movies, tapes, and also- take the time to rewind your thoughts. Replay. Freeze frame. Take some notes. Don't dwell.
15) No really, don't dwell.
16) Are you still dwelling? Stop it.
17) Sing in the car as loudly and as out of key as possible.
18) Start off the night with a shot of SoCo and a beer.
19) Tip your bartender
20) Wear a seatbelt
21) love like the taste of vinegar
22) wear flip flops for as long as humanly possible.
