I just want you to fight for it: A Stefan/Elena versus Damon/Stefan meta

Aug 22, 2011 15:03

Recently I have seen this take in fandom that Stefan ~selling his soul for Damon in ‘As I Lay Dying’ is proof that Stefan loves his brother more than he loves Elena. As in, Stefan was willing to do anything to save his brother versus his perceived passivity when it came to “saving” Elena from Klaus. And I just can’t get onboard with this theory? ( Read more... )

Also, I'm sure if Klaus had said, "Be evil and kill people and come with me, and I won't kill Elena," Stefan would have jumped on it. But the situations didn't play out like that. He only had an option to take for Damon because Klaus gave him one. Klaus wouldn't even let Stefan take Jenna's place in the ritual.

Yes this too. I am sure Stefan would have eagerly martyred himself for Elena if given the opportunity.

Ty bb! I always feel a little nervous before making posts like this. WHAT IF NO ONE READS IT?? WHAT IF NO ONE SHARES MY COMPLICATED FEELINGS??

And some people seemed legit angry that Stefan didn't throw himself at Klaus right there, forgetting that (a) throwing himself at Klaus = INSTA!POINTLESS DEATH, (b) he promised her he wouldn't martyr himself for no purpose, and (c) he knew the ritual gave him some time. So while it was horribly difficult and heart breaking to stand there, it was, IMO, the far smarter choice.

Yes, all of this. And in my reading of Stefan, NOT throwing himself at Klaus was by far the harder choice to make. I love Paul Wesley in that scene because everything in him seems DESPERATE to stay behind Klaus and Elena - and he only backs down when Elena gets between them and calms him down. Stefan really has no problem martyring himself for people he loves - it's choosing NOT to martyr himself that's the more difficult (and right, in that instance) choice.

I do think that the show had a problem of talking up Klaus' ( ... )

Great essay, and omg that gif! <333 So cute. You will make me a full-fledged S/E shipper yet...

Granted I ship Stefan/Elena like it’s my job, but I also love the screwed up co-dependence between the Salvatore brothers. And one thing I’ve always appreciated about the show is that we’re not just talking about a ~who will she choose~ love triangle, but a love triangle among three people who all love each other in different and complicated ways.Yeah I love the screwed up co-dependence as well...TBH, since as even you say S/E wasn't the best in the very beginning, Stefan/Damon was the first interesting relationship on the show that I really latched onto and became invested in, and one of my ( ... )

THIS IS MY GOAL IN LIFE. TO TURN EVERYONE INTO SECRET STEFAN/ELENA SHIPPERS. \o/

TBH, since as even you say S/E wasn't the best in the very beginning, Stefan/Damon was the first interesting relationship on the show that I really latched onto and became invested in, and one of my biggest complaints about s2 is that apart from some truly excellent moments (esp earlier on in the season), they really dropped the ball on their relationship for a long period of time, until the very end when they were so beautiful....lol yes, we lost a lot this season in favour of showing Damon's constant, unending manpain. I do think Stefan and Damon evolved in some interesting ways - they start working together again, they banded together in their love for Elena (Elena = unifying force versus Katherine's destructive force). But I almost loved them more when they were fighting over the best way of protecting Elena in the second half of the season. More ( ... )

Heh, well I always liked S/E well enough, but just liked D/E more (because I thought they had more fire, chemistry, made me feel more excited) in the end of s1, though then the writers really screwed up in s1 with Damon especially...:/

I watch Supernatural! And I love Dean. :p I don't love the show quite like I love TVD though. Not enough ladies.

Oh my bad, I thought that you had said once you should start watching it, or maybe I'm confusing you with someone else...so you are current on all the seasons then? Yeah, I can understand that, I do wish there were more women on the show, but I understand it's the genre/not the focus since it's all about the brothers at heart...I do love all the parallels with D&S on TVD though, especially when Sam is indirectly responsible for Dean temporarily turning into a vamp that one epp! :p Or how they both use the panic rooms so often when their brothers are dealing with blood addicitons (in the case of younger S bros) or suicidal tendencies (D) respectively...I think it'd be hilarious to see them

This is SO LOVELY. YOU HAVE GIVEN ME ALL THE FEELINGS. I love the point you made about Stefan and Damon not being able to work things out the same way that Stefan and Elena do, because it's so true and so characteristic of their relationship.

WE ALL HAVE SO MANY TVD FEELINGS.

And how boring would it be if Damon and Stefan worked things out in the same way? The thing that makes Stefan and Damon compelling is that they WILL go to the ends of the earths for each other even when they've done horrible things to each other (it is sooo a "nobody but me gets to beat up my brother" relationship). And Stefan's reactions to Damon make SO MUCH SENSE to me if I think about it in terms of his guilt complex - he made Damon what he is! Everything Damon does is Stefan's fault and so Stefan owes him any second chance he can get him. Stefan/Elena, in comparison, are like little puppies rubbing noses. :p
